I was putting the chickens back in their run and noticed this under the wing of one of the girls. It looks a little old but I just held her two days ago after a dust bath. Did not recall seeing it then but was also trying to avoid the dust shower when input her down. Our rooster has been a bit amourous but even when he had the others naked on their back nothing like this ever happened. It could have gotten caught on some metal at the bottom of a building where I’ve seen a hole but…She seems a little quiet but she has been since she came back from not walking last year. I’ve isolated her but what should I do next? It moves easily over he muscle can it even heal closed?

Common gash wound I see when my roosters have their spurs too long, & pointy when mating.

Looks partially healed, I'd keep it cleaned, & moist with Non pain Relieving Triple Antibiotic ointment, & put a saddle on the hen.

Realistically that looks like rooster damage - either from the toenails or spur of a rooster. It can heal. Separate her from the rooster, apply antibiotic ointment, and monitor for fly strike.

Put the ointment right on all of it? Sorry don’t want to make it worse
