I have tree branches in my run, but in my coop they roost on 1x10 windowsills/shelves (covered in sawdust), and a 1x4 board. Why do you ask?Great advice! Just curious what kind of roosts do you have?

Sometimes with very large girls, when they roost there breast bone with rub on the roosts and create a sore like that. My brahma was getting a bit irritated in that area so I rounded the corners of my roosts more, no more issuesI have tree branches in my run, but in my coop they roost on 1x10 windowsills/shelves (covered in sawdust), and a 1x4 board. Ah... I see. Yes, my girls are, ahem... full bodied...Sometimes with very large girls, when they roost there breast bone with rub on the roosts and create a sore like that. My brahma was getting a bit irritated in that area so I rounded the corners of my roosts more, no more issues
Mixed, depending on where & when built. Initially I used large 2" dowels in the coop, and made a couple of roosts out of large branches for the run. My more recent coops I use 2x3 on their side (so they perch on the 3" side. Many people use 2x4, but these last 2 smaller coops were to be mobile, and I was trying to cut weight wherever I could.Great advice! Just curious what kind of roosts do you have?
