The other idea that works, is to have the nest box on the inside and just have a little door that swings open to reach into the nests. It's easier to build and the eggs stay warmer in cold weather areas, but it also takes up more space inside the coop. It just depends on what's right for you.

Plus, because the nest boxes are off the ground, doing this won't impeded on the square footage/floor space of my coop, and as you say, the eggs will stay warmer and so will my chickens
