Open mouth breathing

How does one tell if a chicken in suffering from this? I noticed today that one of my hens has been walking around with her mouth open. This is the first time though.

Panting normally tends to be heat related. Whats the temp of the coop? Try putting some ice water or even blocks of ice in with her and see if she stops.

Ok, but it is only 77degrees out- could she getting ready to lay her first egg in the coming days? Only 20wks old. Thank you both for your quick reply.
