I have this wierd idea of having an open bucket attached to the outside of my coop and using a small hose of some sort to water a container inside the coop the chickens drink out of. The main reason is to catch rainwater, the only way i can think of to do this is to use some kinda float valve.

I know it's not really a winter friendly idea but it'd be a good way to save water. lol Maybe use the one water source to fill the water inside and outside the coop? Anyone got any ideas?

[Edit] and I'm not sure if my chickens will be able to learn to drink from nipple kinda things.

I just installed a bottle with a nipple in a coop with 8 week old chicks . It took less than a minute for them to figure out how to get water. These nipples save water because the water don't get pooped in and get feed in it like other systems i've tried. I LOVE THESE THINGS. DPOPS853.
