Open? Vent, dirt around vent

Here are some pics of my hen's vent and surrounding feathers. Is this normal looking or do I need to treat for mites? Her droppings look normal although small this morning. Her egg is bigger than her previous ones and clean. She's 20 weeks old.

Do you let them sleep in there nesting boxes? To clean it, put large cutting board over your sink or shower. Lay her on the cutting board with her butt hanging over the edge. Then rinse the surrounding feathers and scrub the poop off with your fingers.

Thanks for that. I realize now that it's the stages young hens go through when they start laying. She is the only one of my four with a dirty behind, though.

Makes senses. Just be sure to clean her off, and keep an eye on it. If it is continuously happening, she could just be a hen that doest push hard enough and it ends up on her feathers. Keep an eye on it, and clean as necessary

Looks like she's just got dirt and a bit of poop on her vent. Some birds have a lot of fluff and may need a trim.
