Opening a small poultry retail store... any interest?

I want to band my chickens, and the idea of different colors interests me. I'd like to be able to color code my girls so that people like my mom can easily identify them when they care for them when I'm not home, and help keep that personal one on one bond going. Let me know the pricing and everything, and sizes too.

I would definitely be interested in bands...especially the little bitty ones for chicks! I use to have some of those and they were great, but they've gotten worn out or lost over time.

Well, figure whatever you buy you need to double the markup on them. So with that in mind, how would your prices be in comparison to web stores or local stores?

I wouldn't mind some leg bands.

BTW, I think I know where Beaumont, Tx is. I have family there.

And as for mark up... there are no hard and fast rules. Most people double the price of everything. But believe it or not, there is a HUGE amount of minimum sales that you have to have to qualify for wholesale pricing on id bands! More than anything else I have ever sold except for maybe Crane stationery. Most of the websites I have seen are marking up MORE than the actual double of wholesale prices. I am thinking that is because they aren't actually wholesale clients and are just buying in bulk. So the markup is more. They are simply doing what they have to do to make money.

As for the big sites... to get an actual discount you have to buy 1000 of one size and one color! More than what most people want. They are not geared toward the backyard chicken owner.

Also, I will sell in small quantities and will allow and encourage a mix of sizes and colors! Most websites require that you order one color or one size or a random mix of colors and sizes.

There may be other people out there doing this... but again... they may not be actual wholesalers who can offer a real discount. Chicken id bands are not a high dollar enterprise anyway! So the prices are low to begin with.

My goal is to offer selection and variety at a fair price.

I think about everyone wants bands but does not want to have a closet full of bands that might, maybe, get used by great-great-great grandkids due to sheep volume!
