i removed 8 eggs from the incubator last night. hubby and i want to check them to see if we can see anything. i am planning on doing it outside but are there any tricks to make sure they don't explode on us? thanks

I have read that you can do it in a zip lock baggie so that if they do explode at least it will be inside the bag.

i was kind of thinking about that. none of them smell but some do have a blood ring so something icky is goin on in there. thanks

We used to throw rotten duck eggs at trees.

Oh the stinky memories.

I was brave. I opened mine in the house, just cracked 'em open like I was going to fry some eggs. Guess I was lucky -- no stinky ones. And that was on day 18!

I do have a question -- 3 of the bad eggs looked like normal eggs, just like fresh ones. The other 2 bad eggs looked like they'd been scrambled in the shell.

Now, these are my own eggs, so I know nothing traumatic happened to them (like getting shaken up in shipping).

Are the "normal" looking eggs infertile, and the "scrambled" looking eggs fertile eggs that were duds/clears? At least I had two good eggs, and they hatched last night.,

I think if there are rotten ones you'd smell them before they are cracked. I opened up all my duds and none of the smelled. I had several with blood rings. I'm still not sure what went wrong but I could see the little embryos that had stopped growing.
