Okay, I have a HOVA-BATOR 1602N TURBO on the way. Does any one have any suggestions for this specific model?

I have that one. Did you get the egg turner? If not you should add it on with your order. This is the one that I use for my hatcher. I have the Genesis 1588 and Brinsea 20 ECO that I use for incubation. Only because the temps are easier to get right on them.
I have used the 1602N for incubation also and once I had the temp set I never had to touch it again. I think you will be well satisfied. I know some folks have problems with any/all but it seems that I have finally hit something right. I've been having pretty good hatches whether it be shipped or my own eggs. I will be moving eggs from my Genesis 1588 tomorrow to the 1602N for hatching and putting 14 eggs that I just received in mail today into the Brinsea for incubation. I have another dozen coming from the same breeder probably by next week.

I wish you the best of luck and if this is going to be your first hatch, don't give up if all doesn't work out like you would like. It takes a couple or so times to get this right sometimes.

I don't have the turner, but I will look for a good deal on one. I'm trying to be as frugal as possible. Thanks for the advice.

I fully understand but it will save you a lot of time. I wouldn't want to turn eggs 3 times a day if you have very many in there. lol It will be worth the money.

Okay, my new incubator and my eggs arrived the same day in the mail! How perfect is that? I've got the incubator plugged in and the eggs adjusting to room temp with the X on one side and O on the other. The eggs are sitting with the little end up in the egg carton they came in. How long should l wait before putting the eggs in the incubator? Sorry for being so needy, but this is my first hatching project.

I let my shipped eggs sit for two days before I put them in. I also usually wait a few days after setting them before I put them in the turner. It has seemed to work pretty well for me.

I got several different kinds. I got some cheap ones since this is my first attempt. I will go and turn the eggs to the big end up right now. Thanks for the advice!

It is best (if these are shipped eggs) to let them set (with pointed end down) for 24 hours. If they are not shipped eggs, you can set them once your incubator reaches the right temp and humidity and holds for a while. Since this is the first time for you and first time using the incubator, I would watch the temp/humidity and once it reaches the right numbers, I would leave it alone until the next day and keep monitoring it to see if it is staying in that range. WOW, I hope you do okay with this hatch and remember, if it doesn't go as planned, don't give up. My first hatch was almost a total disaster and I almost didn't try again. Now I can't seem to stop. lol I just set 14 yesterday and have another dozen + on their way. BUT, that is it for me for this year. lol I have chicks coming out my ears. Got two totes with chicks in on my built in porch, 1 box with seven others in the kitchen, eggs hatching right now and another pen with 19 2+ month olds in my basement. Oh my, talk about an addiction. This incubation thing is an awful addiction. I did get some of the top line old time breeds though this year and I am so very satisfied.

It is addictive. I thought I would be happy witht the first six, but I immediately wanted more. My hubby is not a happy camper.

anbsmom: I have 2 adult cochins I hatched 4 last month + a mille fleur de'uccle and I just hatched out 2 more mille de'uccle's and 17 more cochins between my own eggs and shipped eggs. But nope, couldn't stop there, put another 12 in the bator as soon as the last one hatched. And thinking about what other colors I want to get. LOL
