Opinion needed on mixing breeds or just one of a breed in a mix - SOON

Hi All,

I am supposed to be ordering chicks with the hour from our local farm store. There are/were six different breeds I was thinking I would order...possibly two of each. I wanted between 8-12...thinking 10 or 11 would be a good number.
I'm wondering if there is much problem mixing several different breeds? If I do this, should I make sure that each breed has at least two? (Didn't know if I had only one of a certain breed that they would get picked on?)
The one I am debating about is what the hatchery calls Araucana - Ameraucana strain (I'm guessing what all others would call an Easter Egger). I'm wondering if they may not be quite as friendly or docile as we are hoping for.
Opinions? I was thinking about just getting one of these EE, but was afraid that might be asking for trouble for her??
(By the way, the other breeds I'm planning on ordering: Buff Orp., Barred Rock, Australorp, Rhode Is. Red, & Wyandotte.)

There's no problem ordering the combination. Single hens of a breed do not see themselves as different from the rest. I love the mixed flock and egg basket. Buy either all large fowl or bantams.

I have 2 of the breeds you mention the Australorp and wyandotte, both get along get i also have the light brahmas,. I think mixing up the breeds gives a nice varity i have 5 wyandottes and light brahmas and 7 Australorps because it is said they are great layers..

I don't see any glaring issues with your planned mix - should make a lovely flock to watch! You can order 1 or more of any of them and not have issues as far as there being just one of certain breeds in the mix. We have two Easter Eggers in our flock at the moment - one is one of or friendliest birds and the other is an absolute nut case, lol....but that applies to most of the breeds we have, there are friendly and less friendly birds in each of the breeds we have.
