I wanted to post individual pics of my 3 Brahma chicks to see what all of you think. I am noticing some differences in the development of the three of them and can't tell if they are all dark brahmas and if it is gender differences?

Chick 1: Dark grey with silver penciled wings. Two lines of penciled feathers coming in on chest. Short fluffy hock feathers. Some whitish feathers coming in around neck area.

Chick 2: Very light grey silvery color. No chest feathers yet. Black, bigger, shinier wing feathers with smaller silver lace looking ones, barely any tail feathers yet. Hock feathers just appearing.

Chick #3: Dark grey baby with two lines of penciled feathers coming in on chest. This one has really LONG hock feathers and probably the most substantial tail.

None of them have a comb yet. Forgive my dirty hands! (I've been gardening)

I would LOVE to hear anyone's opinions about these babies!! I am fascinated with them!

Dark Brahmas can be sexed early by feather patterns, you have a boy and two girls.
The long leg feathers are vulture hocks. A disqualifiation in the show ring[except for some specific breeds], but not unheard of. From what I have read, they sometimes grow out of them, sometimes not.

Thanks for your help! So the lighter grey is the boy? I was afraid of that! He has been such a sweet chick and he's going to have to go to a new home.

This is him when he was younger:

Maybe if you sell him on here someone will buy who wouldn't eat him, and could keep in touch with you on BYC to tell you how he's doing :)

Wow, that is interesting about the vulture hocks, Griffinsong! Were you saying the lighter chick was the boy? I couldn't tell if you were responding in the same order as the photos or just saying there is a boy and two girls. If I understand right, the 1st and 3rd that have the penciling are the girls?

I didn't know about selling on here! I think I know of a good home for him but wow, thanks for opening my eyes to the other possibilities of this site! :)

Yes, the middle one is the one with the boy colors. Sorry about the lack of clarification there.
