Tending to my chickens
What is your opinion about the no roosters allowed in the city limits rule? Do you think that neighbors are just being too picky, or that it is a reasonable rule?

I would be annoyed if one was living right outside my bedroom and crowing before dawn. If it's during the day time and they are confined at night, I don't think it should be an issue. Neighbors do a lot of noisy things during the day...

Roosters are too much noise for the city, can you imagine living in an area where everyone had a rooster crowing in their backyard...yikes

A curmudgeon is a man who thinks that women are unreliable because his wife died.

I guess that the only sounds appreciated in urban areas are man-made ones such as loud vehicles, loud music, gunshots and screaming wives and mothers.

I prefer the country sounds:

Roosters, dogs, birds, geckos, frogs, trucks with drilled out baffles, outdoor parties 'til midnight, church bells (England), temple gongs (Thailand), screaming women and wives.

Is it fair? No I think everyone should be able to enjoy the experience of having a good rooster around. However, I do think in most cases that it is reasonable for neighbors to not want such noise. Though I would rather hear the crow of a protective than the excess barking of neighborhood dogs. Not everyone feels the same way though. It's just one of the issues you have to deal with when raising chickens in the city.

While I lived in the city I missed being able to have a rooster but completely understood why the city had that rule and didn't think it was unfair. My other option was to move out of the city to an unrestricted area where I *could* keep roosters - and this exactly what I did two weeks ago today.

I have found roosters are kind of like dogs. Everyone loves their own, but not so much everyone else's.

It is too bad they make so much noise but it makes sense to have rules regarding roosters. I have 4 guinea birds. I could only imagine how the neighbors would react to that. Any time my cats jump up in the windows or a car drives by they sound off like crazy.
