Orange Mottled Chicken!

There are 4 or 5 of us, total. A few people help out by keeping culls for that "OMG MY WHOLE FLOCK JUST DIED!" contingency. Right now, TofuRanch, Alohachickens, and myself are the "active" folks. We need to hammer down the "base stock" before we start getting super-picky. You know how it goes. You think you have it down, and then generation 3 suddlenly all turns banty-sized.

Sneaky chickens.

Fascinating tho - i love anything mottled really - thanks for getting back to me!

Interesting! Sounds like you have a similar idea to what I am planing on doing. I'd love to join you but I'm on the wrong side of the world.

I am currently looking for speckled Sussex to use over assorted hens. I am also hoping to get some red Ancona as they are supposed to be very good large egg layers. I'll get a few black Ancona hens too for variety but won't keep a black roo due to the dominance of the black.

I have a single bright red RIR who should work in nicely too.

I can't wait to see some of these chicks grow up and also to see the new babies

Are you guys giving eggs away to hatch? If so I would love some as I am itching to hatch something.

Not right now, since they have decided to stop laying for Christmas break. Send me a PM in a few months.

I want to figure out which ones are the likely keepers so I can band the culls before I integrate with the big flock this weekend. I have to move them out so the next batch can go into the grow-out pen. Culled pullets will be going to the Oregon fall poultry swap in October and culled cockerels, well... I will keep them. In the freezer.
