Orange Tabby...He Stays and His Name is Finn (Update with Videos Dec 31)

Sorry, I am just now catching up what is going on your way. Woo Hoo! I am so glad that the blanket accomplished its mission. How was Finn on the night it went down to 20 degrees?

A little while a go my husband asked me what was in the package I got yesterday and I said, "What package?" He had mistakenly laid it on his desk and I had no idea your gift had arrived. Thank you soooooo much for the cutie pie coasters. I love them!! What do you call that design since they are sort of woven together for lack of a better way to describe them. You can tell I am not a quilter. :)
I'm glad you like them. I dunno if there is a name for it. They're just folded and crisscrossed and sandwiched with batting. I do them larger with heat resistant batting for hotpads, too.

Finn was toasty, snug as could be. That blanket really keeps it warm in there! Thank you again, Angela.

Would you believe that yesterday Finn's under-floor heating pad quit? Thank goodness he has that electric blanket over his condo! I quickly whipped up this fiberfill stuffed pillow to shove into that space where the heating pad was for some insulation under his floor.

I tried a screenshot, then tried to type a message in the post above, but it got so garbled up and won't let me get rid of it, so I asked one of my mod pals to get rid of it for me, LOL.

What I was trying to show was: Lows Wed 1*. Electric blanket works again after unplugging it for several hours, but no idea if it will keep working if I put it back under Finn's condo floor. Have to try, though, with these temps, snow and ice expected in addition to bone-chilling temperatures.

ETA: Put the electric heating pad flat inside the condo under his faux sheepskin bed and it's on low. That will work great if it keeps on working. I didn't want to do that but I think I have little choice. Could be the pad didn't like being folded as it had to be to go under the floor. This way, it sort of climbs a tiny bit up the wall in the back and hangs out about an inch in front and his bed is on top of it. I hope that isn't a problem. Really shouldn't be, but will keep an eye on it. I wonder if the cold was messing with the electronics or if it didn't like being on so much or maybe it was just that it wasn't lying flat under there.

That is possible that the cold was interfering with the heating pad working properly. We used to have a problem with the electric windows on our old Suburban not working when the temps were around 32 degrees. I cannot tell you how many times I forgot about that little quirk and rolled the driver's window down only to have to wait for the temps to climb to be able to roll the window back up. We had an old heating pad that we used to use with our labs when they had puppies. It hasn't been used in years, let me see if I can find it and if it works I will send it to you as a back up. We don't need it since we have that halogen heater on our back porch for the cats and chickens.

You are too sweet, but you need to keep that. You are moving up here and you may need that through our winters! With the electric blanket you generously sent us, I think Finn will be just fine now.

Yes, he was neutered but due to the generosity of the local humane society. We did not plan on getting a cat or dog and were not prepared for the cost of vet care at the time. There will be no little Finns running around, even if he did manage to procreate before he got to us. And before you ask, he also got his rabies and Feline4 vaccinations as well, plus pest meds. I do wish you'd taken time to read the thread because I said those things numerous times.

I've heard of people who just grab strays and take them to be neutered. I will not do that. We cannot afford to do that and I don't feel guilty for not doing it, either, though I think some would like to make us feel that way-my apologies to you if you're not one of those. I wish I could help every abused and neglected dog and cat in the world but it's just not feasible. I rather wish I could neuter the humans who neglect/hurt them so they can't pass on their irresponsibility to a new generation. And, in the immortal words of Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say 'bout that".
Nor can I afford any s/n now but when they have shown up on my property I can't let them breed.A ton of the strays are ferals(still a domestic animal) and if they aren't eartipped(indicating s/n) then I have to get them euthed(unless its an obviously castrated male then they can be a barn cat here). Have worked with dogs and cats whole life and just want people to understand that if an animal shows up and isn't neutered...it isn't cared for enough and something has to be done. Very efficient way to TRY to stop so many kittens being available. I have witnessed many heartbreaking things and its related to too many cats being available. ty for loving this 1 cat and again-if they show up on someones property THAT person needs to try to help the animal( and euthanasia is helping, in my world).-

1 as a temperature...Reminds me of that old Steve Martin & John Candy movie, "Planes, Trains & Automobiles", the scene where they are freezing riding on the back of a truck. Martin asks Candy what temperature does he think it is and Candy says, "One". Love that movie but that temp? No, uh uh. Thank goodness Finn is being taken care of.

Right now, he's in his crocheted bed-in-a-box in front of the woodstove. He's toasty warm. If he had to, he could sleep there all night, at least what part of the night he wasn't asking to go outside.
