Orange Tabby...He Stays and His Name is Finn (Update with Videos Dec 31)

Pics
We moved our bedroom into the small craft room and moved my craft room into our considerably larger master bedroom today. Finn was a bit confused, but he made himself at home in the new location anyway. Goofy cat. No, he is NOT allowed on the bed. Didn't much matter.

Yay, a Finn update!

What a rascal...doesn't he know there's a surveillance camera?

I don't think he cares. He's just a big goofball and a bit of a camera hog. You should have seen my DH's imitation of Finn seeing the new room through the door for the first time. I wish I could have had a secret camera recording that one!

He is in awe of Finn's intelligence. This morning, Finn hooked a paw into a slightly open cabinet door under the living room TV to open it. He went inside. which he does on occasion. But, when he came out, he turned and pushed it closed with his nose! DH was amazed. Said he wouldn't have believed it if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes.

Finnn sounds more house-trained than my DH! DH often leaves cabinet & cupboard doors open...I've learned the hard way to watch where I'm going.

Did I tell you, about a month ago I thought we had our own version of Finn? During a heavy downpour, a small longhaired white cat showed up on our porch trying to get out of the rain. We had her for 3 days while trying to find the owner. She was the sweetest little girl (and pregnant of course), loved to sit on my lap, stayed on our screened porch and never made a mess. We were finally giving some serious thought to keeping her when our neighbor mentioned the crazy cat lady that lives next to him (she lives way back in the woods, avoids people and has about 1/2 dozen cats). Turns out it was one of hers but she had only had it 1 day when it ran off and had been gone 2 weeks. Boy, did I hate giving up Miss Kitty. The lady said once she has her kittens we can have one but I don't know that we'll ever hear from her. I've missed her since but guess it was the right thing to do. Sometimes I really hate doing the right thing!

Me, too. Maybe she'll remember and give you a kitten. Of course if a female cat had shown up, she would have been pregnant, just like Finn wasn't neutered.

Finn has even been okay around the broodies with chicks, even Aimee, who doesn't attack him like Maretta does. Aimee just watches, but maybe Maretta's meanness has made him wary of any broody with babies. He just lays around and watches them. One of the little 5 week old D'Anver cockerels was going to challenge him, leaving the group to go do battle with the big bad predator. Those little guys think they're ten feet tall, I swear. I shooed him back before he became a kitty snack. Even Finn might not be able to resist a tasty chicken nugget coming right to him.

That sounds like a delivery meal to me!

That's great Finn does so well with them, especially since he wasn't raised by you around the chicks. He is one smart guy!

Oh, he just made a liar out of me, that bad cat! He was full of it this morning and couldn't resist making a play charge at Maretta and her four chicks. He got charged right back, quickly and in no uncertain terms. So, when I let Aimee out with hers, he was very purposefully ignoring them in favor of stalking something on the back forty.

I really enjoyed reading The Adventures of Finn! What a remarkable cat! My brother always seems to attract orange tabbies--he calls them marmalade cats. For some reason black cats seem to adopt me. :/ During the last winter storm a young black male took up residence in my garage where the chicken coop is to keep the chickens safe from raccoons until I finish predator profiting the backyard. He never bothered the chickens and one early, bitterly cold morning I found him curled up with them for warmth (they're silkies so they look warm and soft). Since then we've brought home 7 chicks and he pretty much ignores them. My indoor cats had caught a possum back in the days I let them outside (before the horrible raccoon started his reign of terror) but they are getting old and I didn't want them taking on a raccoon. I trust all the cats with our chickens...it's the dogs that have me worried. I got the dogs to deal with the raccoon. We'll see how this goes.

Meantime, I had to share my favorite cat video. Henri is nothing like my cats, who are all talkative, friendly, purr machines, excellent mousers (and possum catchers), and come when they are called. But I couldn't help laughing at the really bad French (it's made by an American) and the whole film noir approach. My cats are like Finn in that they run up to me if I hold up a camera which makes them really hard to film--to watch this cat practically act this part cracks me up:
