Good reason for breakaways for cats! He's moving okay, just a bit slower. He went in and out more last night, but it was pouring rain, yet again. I'm so sick of rain, ack! Should be slowing down this weekend and dry for the first part of the week, thankfully. Still a mystery what could have scraped up his legs so badly. The wire on livestock fencing is so smooth, I can't imagine it being our fencing. Maybe something wood? If so, it wasn't here. That boy is tough, I must say, to escape by sheer will and get himself home.

He seems to be doing well. The abrasions are healing up, no sign of infection. He's going in and out as normal again. But, man, he is really shedding! Good grief. I've brushed an entire cat's worth of hair out of him since he got hurt.

Whew, Finn dodged another bullet. So glad he is doing well :wee

:barnie :he DH was going out to get the mail when he heard cats fighting on the power line easement. He ran down and found Finn going at it with a gray cat, probably the same one Finn fought all the way down the mountain a few weeks ago. He chased them, but Finn was always just out of reach. They fought all through the woods and down the hill, yet again. Finally, DH lost sight of them and came home and in a little while, so did Finn. He seemed fine at first, not one scratch on his face....then, I saw his legs. They are shredded! And I think I saw a bite mark on the side of one near the shoulder, too. Both were bleeding badly, so more Vetericyn and I just don't know what to do with him. He obviously hates this other cat with a passion. I'm very happy he's had all his shots.
Maybe he did fight this cat when he got hurt the first time, or maybe the cat fight just opened up the previous wounds, but this is getting really old and really scary for him.
He is fixed, has been for years, so why is he so darn territorial?

This is the worst leg.

Oh wow that is scary! I think this one might call for a vet trip just to be on the safe side, especially if you think you saw puncture wounds. Cat bites can be nasty, all sorts of bacteria.

And maybe you could trap the other cat and relocate him or take him to a shelter or something? Is that possible? Since he seems to fight with that one the most.

I don't know. Don't have a trap, would have to buy one, I guess. Geez, cat drama is making me nuts! I have enough to worry about. At least with dogs you can fence them in, but cats are a special PITA.

ETA: We will take him to the vet tomorrow. His right paw is obviously painful, plus he is really hurting all over, looks like to me.

Poor guy :(

Vet is the best choice. Our fixed male got in a fight with an intact tom, after his owners abandoned him when they moved (same owners that kept letting their lab mix attack and kill my chickens after being spoken to several time - dog was getting shot next time it showed up, good for it that they moved and took it with them). We took him to the vet, but they missed a wound on his back, which then abscessed, put pressure on his spine, paralyzed one of his back legs, and eventually we had to have it amputated. Cat fights are no joke.
