Order your meat chickens now

I ordered 25 meat birds today and they are coming next week! My laying pullets will be coming the week of March 16th from Meyer. I tried Ideal, as they had more of the breeds I wanted, but they had nothing til mid-April.

Hey Brunty Farms!

I ordered my meaties from Ideal - on recommendation from another ohio farm friend - we recently split an order of turkeys from them. I usually order my chicks from Meyers - which is in ohio. They do a terrific job. I'm trying Ideal this time but am about to surf over to Meyers and see what they have on special. If I were closer to Meyer I'd just drive up and get them - but its kind of a haul for me.

Sorry to hear about the Hubby's job, As far as feed I was buying from Red Barn but found a place on A road and Southern blvd. where I get twice as much feed for the same $$$. It is called Wellingtons Edge I believe, I think it is a fairly new place. Hope this helps.

Chick starter, then grower, if the place where you get your feed has it.

Some just have a combo starter / grower.

Sometimes you will hear talk about a finisher. We mix wild game, with the grower, cracked corn and oats to use as a finisher from 12 to 15 weeks on, for heavy breads.

You don't really need a finisher. Because most people butcher cornish cross at 8 to 10 weeks there isn't really time to use a finisher.

We picked up some cornish-x for this year last night at the local farm store. We decide to get them earily after watching the bookings from different hatcheries online.

I have a feeling though, that the booking rush this will slow down by June.

Doubt it. Just a sign that when time get tough more folks think about raising their own food. Betcha some garden seeds will be tough to find this spring too.

Spring comes late to northern NE so I figure I have plenty of time. I ordered 25 Jumbo Cornish and 5 Kosmos-22s from Moyers. They will be delivered in early May. Anyone raise the K-22s before that has advice?
