Ordered first babies from Ideal (Update pg 11 PICTURES!)

They all arrived VERY healthy today. Alive and LOUD. only thing is - they sent me thirteen extras. Half RIRs and the other half I THINK is Plymouth Rocks. The feed store said they'd take them off my hands no problem even if they're likely roos

The thirteen that are going bye, 7 of them are RIRs and 6 are the Barred Rocks

Such cute lil ones there!! Ugggg, 2 more weeks til my babies arrive and it seems like all I can do not to spend all day drooling over other BYCers new chicks (it appears right now that I'm failing at that

)!! The wait is excruciating!!!

Man, I'm so happy! Third try was clearly the charm though one of the D'uccles seems slightly weak. I dunno if it was just sleepy but it had trouble figuring out how to drink, like kept feebly pecking on the side of the metal far away from the ball. So I put it in a small sandwich-sized tubberware with very very shallow water and it took a few gulps before I re-showed it where on the water bottle that the water came out of and put it back with the others. It just sorta acts like its ever so slightly drunk. Stumbling about as everyone just bounces them around. I'm not too worried right now but I hope I'm misreading the situation.

BTW if you are worried about warmth, you could also request extra straw in the box...thats what I did for my order of 9...(sorry if someone else already posted that, I didnt notice it tho....)

Extra straw? Shoot, they really should post all the warmth options especially for first-timers. Next time though, I think I'lll ask the feed store if they'd split an order with me. They order theirs from ideal, too.

Thanks for the suggestion either way would be very helpful if I can't get anyone to split with.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I had to let all topics die and plug my ears with my fingers until they got here even though I was STILL bad. Those two EEers("Americaunas") in with the bantams I got at the feed store earlier this week because I couldn't stand the wait anymore. They get along better than I hoped, you can't really see it but one of the EEers has a wing stretched across about one or two other babies. The D'uccles are so darn teeny the EEers look like they're the mommahs XD

annnd we have a casualty... I was right, that weak one having trouble drinking definitely was not well. The other chicks knew it and kept shoving them around. I'm just happy I got to snuggle them just before they fell asleep. The other chicks pulled the doggy pad over them and sat on top after I left. Snuffing them out. it wasn't a temperature issue. It's 91 in there and theres two larger birds willingly sharing their warmth. This one just had no fight to give and everyone knew it, even me...
