Ordering Black Shamos

Dear Vince,

Nice try at a product plug! But Shamos are one of the oldest asiatic breeds from Japan where they were bred for cock fighting. When fighting was outlawed, they received protected status in Japan where they are revered. Measuring as tall as 30" they are most like the progenitor of the modern Phoenix & Yokohama. They are an APA recognized breed since 1981 with 8 recognized color variations. If you ever doubt the genetic connection between dinosaurs and chickens, just look at a Shamo.

Hardly your run of the mill dishrag!

My grandfather had them for decades. Yes some went to fighting rings, mostly he just liked them. He never, ever had to worry about anyone breaking into his shop or barn so long as his "Toughies" he called them, were loose. Of course any one going out into the yard had to have a sturdy chicken stick or hoe to survive the trip unscathed.

People driving by used to see the roos tadnng on fence posts or the hens out in the yard and stop askign to buy them. It usually didn't take long to convince them they weren't chickens for amateurs.

Not sure how pure his bloodlines were, but he used to trade birds with his Japanese firends and I know some came from Japan.
