Ordering egg layers in the fall

So long as you have a place to keep them warm, there shouldn't be any problems brooding them threw the colder months.

Good luck! Maybe you'll find some more deals

I get my 25 about 6 Nov:D. I too am looking forward to their arrival. Still have the flooring to do on my coop. I will be keeping them in the coop until they are feathered out and then they will free range. Good luck

Dustoff79, what kind of chickens are you getting and where did you order from?

I imagine it is warmer in Texas than it is in Idaho in the winter.

I ordered from Murray McMurray. My DW wanted Buff Orphingtons and Easter Eggers (araucanas), we also ordered RedStar and Anconas. We ordered several weeks ago and Nov was the best date. This has turned out good as my coop build has been off and on. I plan on installing the vinyl flooring this weekend and painting the inside. Hopefully, I will complete it so I can go over the details and make sure it is safe and ready for the chicks.

I think Meyer hatchery sells in small quantities, they do add a small order charge for special shipping though. MPC also has a small order charge.

so you dont feel alone, i am doing it, mine are coming from ideal should have been sent out today actually,
i ordered 10 barred rocks. 10 ee's, 10 buff orpingtons and 10 nh reds. i figured if i order them in the spring they wont lay til fall, so i will be ready, fingers crossed and all goes as planned that is.
