Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

I have a mirror (like for a bird cage) in with my turkey poult. He/she peeps at and it seems to keep it quiet at night. Course it spends a lot of time in my neck under my hair also!

I ran up to Pioneer Feed and they had brand spanking new Silkies.. Brought two home and they are in with Half Pint now. Hoping they will discover the Ecoglo brooder and snuggle down and get stronger. Of course I examined all of the rest of the eggs in the incubator.. turner still on and everything. All was extremely quiet. Came home and while I was settling down the Silkies I hear a faint peep, peep, peep.... go look and well I'll be, a Lavender Americauna hatched! Moved the camera to the brooder so I can monitor (you can too) any more arrivals.
Peeps now in the incubator

Getting ready for Clark County Fair... Sheep are registered for classes. We are taking two rams and 1 ewe.

Congrats to everyone on their new babies! I have a few new babies too! I had 8 new chicks hatch yesterday and today! 4 polish (3 are tolbunt!), 1 blue orpington, and 3 little bantam cochins! They hatched the same day I sent all of my extra roosters and a few hens to their new homes. They cheered me up when I was sad to say good bye to more roos I liked but couldn't keep. Everyone found good homes though, so that's good. I will have to update my "have" list now, because I managed to rehome every bird on the list except the extra polish chicks I will have from all this hatching!

I guess I should update.

I no longer need a Whizbang. My son just purchased an EZPlucker

I will not have exhibition Blue Swedish for sale. I ordered 16 and I only received 7 of them, so no extras.

I am still hoping to have a Redwood Cabinet Incubator for sale and a solar dehydrator. They are still not made, though.

Bringing: yellow iris rhizomes to trade. Cloverleaf, Cathy M, and Tam.r.r. are getting yellow iris and I'll have more to trade. Trading for iris, day lilies, Asian lilies.

Bringing apples and grapes for daze333 (I hope)

Bringing 3 gallon fig trees for sale $30. Trees reserved by Zanna, Tally Ho, and maybe HeyUpChuck. I have more trees.

Available: pair of exhibition Silver Appleyard ducks. Probably won't bring unless someone asks for them.

Getting honey from Zanna (for the fig tree)

Want: Exhibition Saddleback Pomeranians

Want: Potentilla plants

I have to come up with something else to help pay for the rent on the hall. I intended to give the sale price of one duck, but now I don't have ducks to sell. So, I figure out something and give cash if nothing else presents itself.

By the way, if anyone raises Pekins, in my order of Swedish where I got shorted, he filled out the order with Pekins. While I'll never order from that guy again because of his poor business practices, his ducks have superb temperaments.

I don't actually know what makes an exhibition Pekin, but these little guys are growing fast and they are the most sociable ducks I've ever met. They are a real pain to deal with because they are standing on my shovel as I am trying to clean their brooder and climbing up my arms as I am trying to feed them. As I push one out of the way so I can get my chores done, 2 more take his place. When I am trying to feed, they are sitting on my hands and crawling up my arms.

They are so personable, I am going to feel guilty butchering them. But I do not need a third breed of duck. If I ask for more pens so I can separate another breed during breeding season, there is going to be an armed rebellion at my place.

I am not bring them to the swap because I don't want to feed them for another month and a half after their butcher date. Fast growing ducks eat a lot and feed is expensive. I know I've got one female because I've got one quacking already. So, if anyone wants to buy any breeding Pekins from a judge in Ohio, get in touch with me.

I paid the price for Exhibition Swedish for them, and air freight from Ohio to get them. Open the box and the box is full of Pekins. Not happy. But they are really extra nice ducks, just not my breed.

They are from a breeder who is NPIP (but he neglected to include the certificate). So far, they've just been in my sterilized brooder and no signs of any ill health. They could probably go outside now, but I am keeping them in for another 2 weeks because I don't want them contaminated by the high strung hysterical temperaments of the hatchery ducks I've got out in the orchard. They don't go outside until the hatchery ducks are in the freezer.
