I'm thinking Monday because Tuesday my kids have eye appointments and Wednesday I know I will be crazed trying to get the house finished for the onslaught of 14 year old boys Friday lol.

I may just be able to help you out on this one. I've still got a new flock and am trying to figure out where I want to go with it etc. Our coop is like a huge shed that's got the main coop which is 16x4 with 8 sets of doors. I can easily close one section off so they'd have their own section in the coop. Then the rest of the "building" is covered in 1/2" hardware cloth which is buried and all seams are "sealed" with trim. We haven't finished the yard as of yet but currently I have it set up so there are two internal doors that will open into the yard which I'd planned to subdivide as I'm growing seeds and grains that they can eat greens n all etc. I'll post pics later.

Maybe we should grab that tea and chat about it and everything else chicken. My weekend is kind of full but Carus is right up the road. Let me know what you think

Not planning on eating him though. I have also read that they don't tend to live very long either because of their breeding. So I'll just let the little guy have a nice live as long as I can. And watch what he eats so he doesn't get too big. Hey, he can be my diet buddy! He can't put weight on and I need to take it off.

Oh! and FYI, The white turkey is the breed that the President pardons at Thanksgiving also. Just some turkey trivia.

Sounds like you have it all under control. Actually it was interesting to see her heritage breed toms doing great and that poor hen just a mess. But she had a nice life just standing there!
 
Ok all you Oregonians, how do your chickens handle the rain? My chicks, about 11 weeks old now, are dealing with their first rain and it seems they either don't care about the rain or don't know what to do about it. My 3 silkies are soaked, they look like drowned rats. The others are somewhat wet, but it is the silkies I am most concerned with. Their feathers are so light the water seems to soak them pretty good. We do have shelter and the hen house for them to go to but they seem determined to stay outdoors. Any tips? Should I be concerned about the silkies getting too wet/cold?

I am in Washington, but still have the rain. Silkies are sorta dumb when it comes to rain. I built a separate almost "indoor" coop for them. They do have a run, but I keep it closed if it is pouring. I also keep a 100w heat lamp on at nights for these wimpy birds. I love my silkies to death, but they are a little high maintenance. I am not sure if I have any good ideas without keeping them all in when it is raining...can you cover their run until it isn't raining as much? Good luck!
