Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

My DS is very concerned about the horse herpes virus outbreak. He was going to the Big Loop Rodeo this weekend in Jordan Valley but the event was cancelled because of the outbreak. Sounds like it's not something you want to mess around with. The horse will shed the virus the rest of its life. He has friends in Craine so instead of going all the way to JV they're heading out there for the weekend.

Think your hubby might like a windchime made out of 50cal shells?

We could have redneck craft time!

No but seriously. We can get a bunch of shells from the ranch and make windchimes.

Are you talking about bullet shells in a wind chime?? If so, I have to have one for my dad!

He collects shells.

Sage, Thyme, and Nasturtium are said to reduce intestinal parasites, and chickens love red tomatoes, kale, and salad greens. I will be bringing starts of many of these to the swap... hopefully some in chicken proof planters so they don't get totally killed when the chickens eat them!

I wonder if you could put an arch of chicken wire over the plants so they are about 8-12 inches tall and that way everything that grows out of the top the chickens could eat, but they couldn't eat it down to nothing?

Yep, that's how they build a nest. I have young ones doing the same thing and Zephyr's girl, Dina, just started laying last week (she is just 4 months old), is already broody. They start young

As long as she is eating, drinking and doing all the other normal chicken things, I wouldn't worry about it. My little white hen that I thought was sick or egg bound is just "relaxing". She is perfectly fine, just refuses to do anything but sit in the bathroom - alone - listening to Bach on my IPod under the heat light eating corn.

She is a little prima donna LOL I have one outside that has panic attacks all the time so I have to give her "quiet time".

Oh and Seramas molt all the time, not just at certain times of the year, so you will always notice feathers in their cages - just an FYI.

Ok, the post a lot of you have been waiting for I know LOL....I have finally put together the cheesecake line up for the fall swap. Since the cheesecakes freeze really well, I put in a few holiday type ones - Thanksgiving and Christmas - for those of you thinking ahead
big_smile.png

For those new to the thread, these are 10" baked cheesecakes that come frozen and wrapped. I have divided them into 2 price categories ($15 and $20) since some of them require additional ingredients. These are pre-order prices only. If you buy them the day of the swap, they are going to be $25 no matter what type. I will only be making these kinds this time - no surprise or extra varities. I will however be making some smaller savory (dip-type) cheesecakes like pesto, salmon, crab, etc etc (I'm still putting together the recipes for these). You won't be able to preorder these since I can't freeze them. Whatever I can make and store in my fridge will be available the day of the swap. They are smaller in size, 5", and will be $7.50 each. I will also hopefully be bringing some cheesecake bars in 8X8 pans ($10 each), either frozen or very chilled (I'm bringing a mini fridge to the swap), and maybe even some cheese pies ($10 each) if I have the time. These cannot be preordered either since I really don't know how many I can make given my space requirements.

Because of my space limitations, I would be forever in your debt if you would like to order a cheesecake and receive it before the swap. I can definitely make arrangements to get it to you as early as September. It would help you (you don't have to worry about it on the day of the swap) and it will help me by freeing up freezer space (my family would love you too since I do not buy any freezer food for at least a month before the swap lol).

The cut off date (I'm going to be very strict about this date this time) is October 1st. I will not accept any preorders after that date but rest assured I will try (no promises due to space) to bring at least 1 extra of every kind to the swap.

**Note: a lot of the autumn cheesecakes contain nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, cloves etc. so if you are allergic to or do not like a certain spice, please let me know and I can omit it from the recipe**

So without further adieu....

Hey, all sounds very,VERY good. Have you every tried shipping any of your cheesecakes with dry ice?
idunno.gif
I was thinking if I was to order ahead, and possibly picking up early; that I might try to ship one to my mom. She lives in the midwest, but the weather would be cooler then and I could do a priority ship or go thru UPS. Being a small town, I don't think they have overnight. Just a thought. I know my mom loves cheesecakes and I would be early, but I was thinking it would make a nice gift.

Everyone has so much 'stuff', (me included) it is getting harder and harder to think of gift ideas.

Last holiday season everyone got plain old gift certificates. Just a thought.(about shipping)

But they all sound so yummy, it might be hard to make THAT decision.

An FYI.

No, I never have but I bet you could. It would be expensive...

Hey Laura let me know if you want any help with savory recipes. Was one of my fortes when I was in the trade. Also let me know if you want me to make some pesto or nutella for you pre swap.
