Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

Tam'ra of Rainbow Vortex :

The faire, (www.shrewfaire.com) is September 10th and 11th this year in King's Valley (near Philomath) And it is the 16th annual this year! If you could only go to ONE faire in the state, this is the one. I make masks from feathers, bone, and leather (with normal stuff like paper mache, plaster, etc) and charms and wands from the feet of chickens dried around stones. Sounds a tad creepy, I know, but they look cool and draw people in as well as preventing the parts we won't eat from going to waste. My feelings are that the best way to honor the dead is to make sure that there life was not wasted and to remember them in a beautiful way. I will post the mask pics I have now, but I haven't had a chance to upload any others (including the feet!)

Very cool masks!! I have seen your booth and loved the masks, as I have gone to the faire for the last several years (Love making costumes; I have the middle class garb and one of these days want to make a gorgeous royalty gown!!) -- if anyone from BYC is going this year, maybe we could meet up there! Most of my friends think I'm a little nuts to dress up and go to a medieval festival... but they think I'm nuts to have chickens, too!

I'd love some yellow ones!! I have some purple iris I could trade, and some yellow daylilies (more gold than yellow) and some white flag iris. In fact I have to dig up the flag iris bed, so I'll have a bunch of those (like iris, but taller, with smaller flowers)

I don't have iris bulbs to trade, but would love some in any / every color!! They are one of my very favorites, something my grandmother always had, and the only ones I have planted are the ones I took from her house when she passed away.

I can bring Irises too. Total grab bag assortment. I know the ones in the front are white-lavender-pink, the ones in the middle yard are pink-yellow, and the back has about 7 colors planted all willy-nilly. The aesthetic sense of my house's prior owners escapes me. It seems like they had no plan at all. But I can dig some up and bring them... are there any 'what not to do's? I have never dug up the beds (only had the place a year!) and I think they need thinning.

And as promised, more pics of ren faire stuff!

If we do want to do a BYC meetup at faire count me in. I will be there Wednesday through Monday, so meeting during faire won't be hard for me! I would offer my booth to meet at, but I don't think I will have room for everybody. But stop by and say hello if you see me.

I like girly, but I also know how to shoot! Doesn't matter what the weapon may look like, it's where the bullet hits that counts!!

OK, enough interest in trades for iris, so I'll bring a big box. Anyone who wants to trade, wander on by. If anyone thinks the iris swap should be more organized, everyone can meet at my booth, but right now, I am thinking just wander by.

Cloverleaf, if you don't have anything to trade, I can give you a couple of yellow iris. I've got tons of them. Or, I could use some chicken herbs, as long as they are good for ducks.

AyeUpChuck, love your iris. It would take a lot of iris to equal a fig tree. But I traded a pecan tree last year for a bushel basket of black iris. So, if you want to bring me a generous size box of rhizomes, I guess I could trade a fig tree.

I'm showing fig trees for Tallyho and Zanna (for honey), maybe AyeUpChuck. Did I miss anyone?

Cathy M, I'd love to have some day lilies and white flags.

TamRa, no problem about mixed and unidentified colors. I plant them out back in my orchard until I can see what the colors look like and then move them to a permanent spot where their color will be a good fit.
