Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

We were thinking a canopy with tarps up would be appropriate, so no "passerbys" would see it.

Besides, perhaps parents should have their children see it. Unless they're vegetarians and can guarantee their children will stay vegetarians the rest of their lives.

Perhaps it is something you could set up for the next swap in Bend or a separate day event for poultry eduction type demonstrations? Just a couple suggestions but I really don't think it should be at this swap.

All good here too...lost a hen yesterday but she was really old (I got her at one of the first swaps I attended - a rescue of sorts lol). She lived a good life here

I checked on the last two eggs today, saw no movement so I opened them. Fully developed, just never pipped. I hate that

I'm throwing a few of Zephyr's in too since none of his made it to hatch. I'm kind of floating on air this week already...the 3 people who have received my shipped eggs all report 100% growth in them! Very wonderful news for me...and them, lol.

Well, I learned to hatch from the best (in my opinion) - Silkiechicken. I was "thinking" and reading too much about things so I just followed her advice and relaxed lol. Most of the time she doesn't even monitor humidity - just keeps water in the unit. This time, I followed air sac development which worked great. I was able to tell if my humidity (without really monitoring it down to the percent) was correct or not and adjust if I had to with more or less surface water. Unless you have really expensive lab equipment (like she does LOL) it really is impossible to get it accurate, it's all just a guess - in my opinion again.

I LOVE going to this and recommend it. They have a lot of fun things for all (my preschooler AND her grandma love it). We discovered it 3 years ago and work our fun life around it so we can go. We have 3 generations that attend in our family.
Tam'ra - I thought that might be your booth after seeing the first pictures you sent. Very cool and great "recycle" of life.​

It has been years since we have been to one. I was just thinking of them the other day, when I was going through our closet, and came across some of our 'costumes'. Maybe I'll have to talk to hubby and remind him on how much fun they were!...

Is anyone interested in trading iris? All I've got to trade are tall bearded iris in a bright daffodil yellow. Very cheery, very large flowers. Tough as nails. I got a whole bunch of them when I bought my house, and they hadn't been watered for 6 years. It's desert, here. These guys are survivors. So far, they are the only thing I've found that the deer won't eat.

I've got a lot of them, so I can bring a box full if anyone is interested in doing any trading for whatever color iris they have. I'll take any color, but especially wants blues, purples, and lavenders. I don't have any whites. I'd like to have some whites.

Or day lilies. I'd trade iris for day lilies. Or Asiatic lilies.

So the chicken drama concluded today. The woman who paid for a roo got a steal as I took Kalamata back and let her have a SLW pullet. She was only pet quality. I'm ok with it. And the good news is that she lost my address so bar the chance that that girl is a boy, she can't just show up like she was threatening to do. I also followed silkie and OB's advice and met in a very public place and made her sign a receipt stating that it was as is final sale don't come a knockin cause I won't answer and if I do I may just have Jeanine great you with her pink shotgun!

Here's a pic of him. I hate to say this but I'm REALLY glad that I got him back. He's an Olive Egger that was a black Ameraucana roo over a BCM hen. He's got black muffs and beard and the pea comb and then he's got the coppering and feathered shanks! He's going to be a really handsome boy when he's finished coloring out! I want to put him over some Marans girls and eventually Am's but my three babes are still very munch that so it may not be until next year. They're Lavs so it would be really interesting to see their offspring.
