I call it the dinosaur peep. The tone & pitch are a perfect mimic. It's just much louder.

He lives in the family room which is where I have the brooder while in doors but he will even peep when they are in the garage. Just so I don't forget what peeps sound like he does it when they move to the barn and he's the only bird inside the house. He does not crow thankfully.

He has his own cup of joe

I will be looking for 2-3 more pullets (breed undetermined as of yet, looking into 3 right now). I'm hoping to find some at the swap. What's the best way to do this, cross my fingers and show up or arrange ahead of time? Any swap hints?

I've only been to the one, over here in Redmond and it was quite small (but loads of fun.) There were plenty of chicks for sale, so you could have walked in and had a bit of a selection and gone home with chicks.

So I suspect you can just appear and make your choice of what's available. If you are hoping for a specific breed or age, it might be more reliable to try to find someone who has what you want and make arrangements to pick up the birds at the swap.

A few of us, myself included, don't take birds unless someone has asked for them. It's a bio-security thing. I don't want to take birds and then end up bringing them home and having to quarantine them.

It you are looking for birds older than chicks, you might start asking now. Other than that, I think it is a bit early to be making arrangements because there is a lot of time between now and then for the seller to have to be feeding the birds. They'd probably prefer to get them sold now rather than hold them for 2 1/2 months.

But, it is also possible to speak up now and perhaps have someone get eggs into the incubator in order to have the chicks you want available by swap time.

Yes, that is pretty much how you do it. As we get closer, I will post what time people can start showing up to set up their tables. Because we are renting this space, we have to confine ourselves to within the building - we can't spread out into the parking areas etc. The only people that will be outside or at least by the large opening doors, are the few people who have prearranged with me to bring chicken tractors and other large items to sell.

Just as an FYI to everyone: I can understand the biosecurity thing and completely respect it so if people only want to bring prearranged sales, that is fine. However, there will be a lot of walk in traffic for this particular swap. Most of the people emailing me are looking to buy birds at the swap but not interested prearranging anything. They want to come and "shop". At the past swaps, a lot of people who do bring birds but don't want to take them home due to biosecurity end up making great deals with people midway through the day - or giving them away for free. I think they've been very successful. Again, this is just an FYI to everyone since this event is going to be much larger and I think different than any of our other ones. We are in a prime "shopping" area for people looking to add to their flocks or start flocks. The advertisement for this event is already working quite well and I haven't even really got started yet! Once our event hits the marquee outside the fairgrounds...well, I expect to stay very busy that week fielding phone calls and emails lol. I will be taking flyers to the Benton County Fair this next week for my 4H friend to pass out to everyone she can in the poultry building. I will also be giving some to the fair office and giving them our website to post on the event calendar.

It is 146 since I've been lazy and haven't updated it yet

When I do, the most recent page number will be in the first post. I change it as soon as I update. The Quilt block is still the same page since I haven't seen any updates for it.

In the past, probably about 80% of the sales have been prearranged. It will probably be the same this time but I'm thinking there will be a lot of "available" birds there that just show up. We have several outside people (not BYC members) bringing birds for sale and I'm suspecting that a lot more will also show up the day of the swap. We always have people who drop in with a car full of birds/chicks etc and with the advertisement for this one making that even more possible this time around, I think there is going to be a lot to choose from that day.
