Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

Went down with a friend and had a ton of fun. I didn't get to bring any hens home as we just got over 2 weeks of sneezing here and I didn't want to get any new girls sick

But we did come home with lots of jam, 2 cheese cake samplers, a chicken harness, a black wooden tool box, cookies, seeds and sore feet. What a fun day!!!

Edited to say - Thank you for everyone's hard work to pull this off, it was wonderful!

My husband and I had a blast! Sold out on our Chanterelle Mushroom and Herb Pasta sauce, as well as lots of fresh mushrooms, thank you, thank you.
Didn't come home with pullet and chicks I brought, woooohoooo!!! thank you thank you. It was a personal thing - I just didn't like her or most of her babies. I actually kept three at home, and then brought three mixes of the same age from Alexis? I think? thank you they are adorable. could you remind me again what they are?
I brought home the lavender Muscovy hen from cbreezerentals, thank you, she is beautiful. Can't wait to introduce her to the flock in a few days.
Thank you Tam'ra of Rainbow Vortex for the beautiful starts and tomatoes. More sauce will be made, Yay!!! We sold everything we made except for the sample jar that created dinner tonight.
Thank you thank you Sumatra 503 for adopting the Blue Faverolle/Andalusian mix. He was way more tame/calm than I would have ever guessed, and glad to not bring him back here just to butcher.
Oregon Blues thank you for the fig tree's and statuary. They will be well loved.
Came home with one roo that I came with- that's okay he is now upgraded to flock gene pool. He did excellent at the swap, so he has proven, so far, he is worth keeping. I think that makes 5 official roosters here. There are a couple more on probation who will miss tomorrow's butchering session as well.
Thank you ZooMummzy, Alexis, Cloverleaf, and all others instrumental in putting this thing together. It was awesomely wonderful. Looking forward to Spring Swap!

Thank you thank you for those that donated at the raffle the apple tree and kitchen accessories, I love them!!!

p.s. my husband had fun too, which means even more to bring/trade next time!!!! and I have to say he was great today letting me run around looking at things and wheeling and dealing

What a great day! My girls and I had so much fun meeting everyone from here and seeing what everyone had to offer. I cant wait till the spring swap!

Oh man you guys are so much fun!

Dove - I think you got an Australorp/RIR mix (the black one) and for the life of me I don't remember the other 2 that you got! If you describe them I could tell ya - because when I offered to throw in a third, I didn't even see which one you picked.

I had a wonderful day - it almost seems like I won't know what to do with all my spare time now that the swap is over. But then I came home and looked at my house - I've got my work cut out for me

I want to share my story of the day.

A gentleman stopped by my table and was chatting with me about who-knows-what. Then he said he wanted to know where I lived, so I told him (we're a trusting lot, aren't we?). His face lit up and he said, "Hey, didn't I come to your house with some chickens once?!" It took me a minute, but then I realized that he was the guy who just stopped in at my house about two years ago because he always saw me outside taking care of my critters. He had "rescued" a trio of chickens downtown in Corvallis a few days before and no owners had turned up. I'm not sure why he was driving around with them, but he stopped in and asked if I would please give them a home. Well... I didn't really NEED another rooster, but I told him I'd keep the hens because at least they could return the favor. He was insistent that they all stay together, because they were "attached". haha!

So, I caved under pressure (kind of like I do when ZooMummzy gets me to take another rooster

) and I took all three of the chickens. He also bought me a bag of food, and came over the next day to build them a little pen and a little roost. Then we went on vacation. I had a farm-sitter paid for, but he insisted on coming over every day to care for these birds, and make sure they were having a nice transition. After a couple weeks of this - I didn't see him again. Until today. It was so touching!

He was equally thrilled to hear that the chickens did well at our place, and that one was still living. Since I had brought a lot of photos along, I handed him one with a picture of the "grandson" to the rooster he gave us (who is now in charge of the whole flock, and is in my photo that will be in the BYC Calendar!) and he got tears in his eyes! So I sent him home with the photo, which he was clutching to his heart as he walked away. Darn near made ME cry!

Anyway - that's my story of the day. I loved meeting everyone that was there, it was such a pleasure and you were all so very nice, helpful and flexible! Thank you for making it easy on us, and I'm so looking forward to the next one.

Cute story!

I was a late comer and only saw rooster after rooster! OK, a few pullets, but none I just had to have - Whew! Nothing I needed, but I had to back slowly away from those cute baby bunnies. I really wanted one! My 8 year old was the one who took a picture of every bird left in the building by 2:00. Yep, I have about 70 pictures of your birds on my camera. Much easier to feed and care for!
Who lost the dominique? What a fun chase throughout the pavilion, a highlight for my kids who got in on the chase. What a fun time, next year I'll get there earlier though.
