Oregon Spring Chicken Swap!! SAT, April 24!! Albany OR **UPDATED MAP*

Okay, my crates all have some straw in them and are just waiting to be loaded with chickens...LOL! I wish I had something to bring, but there is always the Fall, and at the rate we are going we will certianly have something. Oh, but if someone wanted some mutt hatching eggs, I might be able to get a few. LOL< Like 3, like should've thought to ask sooner. BR/BSL roo over Australorp hens and one GSL hen. They've been fertile when checked, and we have some developing in the bator right now.

I have another update from Sheryl (from Craigslist) and will probably have another one later. She didn't want to overwhelm us (too late for me I think, lol)

I am just going to paste her email to me since it covers everything nicely:

Sheryl (from Newport)

Have: I have two very nice "over the toilet" shelving units, a glass table top, some crafts stuff, etc. that I would like to bring. Is this okay?

Also, in regards to the milk - will I need to label it as being "for animal consumption only"? We consume our milk obviously, but I would leave it up to the taker as to what they choose to do with it. Also, I will need to charge enough for jars and lids as I live in Newport so am not close enough to go easily get jars returned (I paid a $2 per jar deposit for weekly milk). Also, I could bring fresh kefir, cottage cheese, soft goat's cheese, and ? more.

I have two barred rock hens to add to my bringing, both laying.

In regards to the eggs, I will bring chicken eggs for sale. If I have enough I could bring Cuckoo Maran and/or Buckeye eggs for hatching as well. I will bring duck eggs for eating or hatching.

I am considering bringing one of my Kinder goats just to "show her off" and encourage interest in Kinders here in our area. I do have some that could be for sale but that would need to be later.

Wanted: Pilgrim geese goslings - males and females, quail chicks or adult trio (like coturnix, Texas A&M - I would prefer the larger breeds), black Australorp chicks/pullets, someone to teach me how to make soap with my goats milk! I need at least two more feeders, two more large waterers. Could use mineral holders for loose minerals (for goats).

Lol I am so ready too! I'm all nervous and excited, hoping it all goes smoothly (I know it will)! The responses have just be so overwhelming - I love it! I am definitely thinking another one in the fall - October like last year seemed to work well weather wise.

Definitely excited!

It's a 3 hour drive, roughly, from here, so we won't be there until noonish. But we'll be there, wearing our BYC shirts! Okay, maybe only I will be wearing my BYC shirt, I think DH finds wearing identical clothing a bit, emmm... errr... twee. But he has a BYC t-shirt and wears it around, too....

Bringing the large size plastic dog kennel for my two new Welsummers! Have taken my 6 wk old pullets outside a couple of times this week, for a few hours (not including the day we got a surprise spring snow shower). They definitely want to stay in the coop and not come inside. My hope is that I can put the dog kennel with the Welsummers next to the 55 gal tub with the other 4 (who are around 3 weeks older than the Welsummers), let them see and hear each other for a few days and then move them ALL out to the coop and run together.

Another update from Sheryl (Sherri) and I'm so excited! She raises Buckeyes...the one breed still on my want list...and she has goats and lives in town! I am soooo all over this!!

How do I sneak goats into my backyard?
lol.png

Her email:

Yes, we raise Buckeyes and are working on developing a strong and quality strain and to that idea we currently have two different genetic lines here. Anyway, I actually have a couple of Buckeye chicks in the brooder, some Cuckoo Marans chicks and some "combos" of Cuckoo and Buckeyes. We have 20 Buckeye and Cuckoo eggs in the incubator right now with hatch out in about two weeks. I will put my website at the end...it is a "work in process" and I wish someone more knowledgeable than me could help me finish it!

I will plan on bringing a small table to set up and a chair. My Kinder will be in a large dog kennel and I will have a lead to take her in and out to show. I will try to have information on the Kinder breed. You would love Kinders! Keep in mind we live in town - come visit my backyard!!!

Also, if okay, and it sounds like it is, I have some plant starts (angel wing begonia) and will have some outside plants (perennials) to bring as well; rhubarb, rugosa rosa rose, lemon balm, rose campion, etc.

A Goat! How cool is that?!

Those Buckeyes have my eye as well. I look forward to talking to her about the breed. Something I am looking at for Spring next year maybe. Awsome that there is a breeder here in Oregon. Do you know of any other breeders in Oregon ZooMummzy? LOL, I could totally picture my goats in town........Right! They are little brush mongers/escape officinados to be sure!

I know! I am sooo all over that!!! She is the only breeder I have been able to find so far that is close. I'm excited to hear more about them too. I can only have pullets/hens so I'm hoping she sells older birds. Here is her website, I forgot the link earlier in my excitement lol. I just told my daughter about the goat and she was "Mom, we can't have goats. We already gave up the whole back yard to your chickens." Lol so?

See! I am so glad to see you have "green" stuff in your backyard! My family says "we won't have a yard"....I will show them that we can

The only reason I have "yard" is because we have ten acres. LMAO!

I won't tell if you don't! I can delete this if they will see it. (Shhh, I got your back!)
