I do get girls... when I don't get to pick out chicks myself. LOL I have a knack for picking out boys.

And from all the eggs, I think it was the hen who threw lots of boys. I stopped hatching her eggs. LOL

If I were getting a bunch of birds (even from different sources) I would probably quarantine them all together, just to save some headache. I use XL dog crates for quarantine, but it will depend on number and size of birds that you get. Also one time on CL I found 4 big wire dog crates with slide out pans - I wired them all together to make a "condo" and I can have individuals and pairs in those....it was only $75 for all 4.

So we'll take the ones you don't want! At least you know what you're good at.

Well, I raise silkies to eat, so doesn't matter if they are boys or girls. More boys just means that my mom gets to make more medicinal soups. I don't tend to eat many of the girls if I have them as I like to hatch more to eat.

Any silkies or birds that come back with me from the meet all go to the pot since home is north of Seattle and I'm down in Oregon for school.

Sounds easy enough. Since I will have the new coop set up by then I will just wait until I get the new birds and then put them in all together. Thanks.

@ silkiechicken & tallyho -- I know, I need more!

I'm trying to be good though and save some room for future babies.

ZooMum - they're getting big! I could stuff a pillow with one bird!

(don't mind the white schmutz on the blackies, they got into the baking soda I use to deoderize the run)

I saw a cooked silkie on one of the cooking shows. Interesting. First sign of a cold I make a medicinal soup, but haven't tried a silkie!!!!
