We fell in love with some city 'yard turkeys' owned by a family who lives near our violin teacher. We saw them wandering the street one day and had to stop and ask about them. She had 2 toms who were very bossy, friendly and inquisitive. They were definitely not the typical meat birds, might have been bourbon reds. She also had a pathetic hen of the white meat type. Poor thing could hardly walk and she was a total mess but she was a sweetie. They had rescued her from someone who just couldn't bring themselves to do her in. The turkeys and the chickens all hung out together but the turkeys were wanderers, the chickens stayed put. Anyway, ever since then we have wanted a turkey.
