Oregon Spring Poultry Swap April 23, 2011 in Canby!!!

Quote:
We had over 100 quail in the house and they never made a sound at night and I LOVED the sound they made during the day! They never made much noise, but the mature males make a beautiful exotic sound! Their sounds were far more tolerable than our Serama in my opinion. The only reason they got kicked out was because the chicks needed the space. We had quail in our house for about 6 months last winter and I am thinking of bringing a pair of the Tibetin back in just for fun. They do however get stinky rather quickly. I guess it all depends on what sounds you like in your house. I have had a cockatiel and parakeets too. Actually the sound the male quail makes is very similar to the sound my cockatiel used to make, but he talked as well. Besides, if you are planning on butchering, I think they are fully grown at like 8 weeks old, so....

I swear to you, it was awful!

Maybe they just didn't like me or my house?

Great! They can't be that bad, especially since I'd be eating the little puff balls so young and the sound of the outdoors would be very welcome inside. LOL To me at least.

I'm trying to teach the tiel to talk, but so far he can only do the wolf whistle and the first three notes of the imperial march... he does however speak parakeet... and my youngest parakeet speaks cockatiel

And of course you can keep them outside when it's warm. Easy to move onto a balcony or whatever. Mine are actually in an unheated barn right now. The quail will probably teach your cockatiel some new sounds, LOL!

Hi!
I got directed over here from another thread when I saw the Chicken swap referenced! It sounds like a lot of fun and a good way to find some nice chickens. I'm definitely planning on coming.

I probably won't have anything to bring - possibly some chicks or youngsters if my htaching plans pan out. But I will be looking to possibly purchase some to add to my flock.

I'll even start a 'wants' list for chicks and/or young pullets and possibly a young Sussex roo:

Blue Plymouth Rock - does anyone around here have these?
Speckled Sussex
Buff Sussex
Dominique
Lavendar Ameraucana
Splash Ameraucana
Blue Wheaton Ameraucana

Of course I can't get all those at the same time, but that is what I'm interested in finding and purchasing at some point.

I know that Erin (can't remember her BYC name right now

) has/had Cuckoo Silkies awhile ago and was breeding more. If you want to PM me I can give you her email. I don't think she has posted to attend the swap yet but she lives in the same town I do so I could make arrangements to bring them to you.
