Dang it! I think I'm going to have to include 3 silkie cockerels to my have list. They're about 11 weeks old and I'm pretty sure they are little boys. I really love them so much and I'm sad that they are boys. I don't plan on breeding silkies so I don't want to keep any (maybe just one?). I'm bummed that out of 10 eggs I got 3 boys. They're eggs from a BYC'er. There's a cuckoo, splash (maybe grey?), and blue. Pics are here:https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=5623283#p5623283 . These eggs were an impulse purchase my DS wanted and now he can't keep any.
I once hatched a set of 1 silkie eggs and it was as boy... then hatched another single... also a boy... then hatched 3 more, 2 were boys.. went to the feed store to pick out 6 silkie chicks, 5 were boys.
But looking at your pic's, I'd hold out a bit longer on the middle one.

Whoa! That's a lot of boys! Did you ever get any girls?! After that story, I'm never going to grumble about getting boys! I am bummed but I also know that I am due to get a crop of boys. I had 9 of 12 girls with the MFCs so I cannot complain. But silkies are so darn cute and so sweet I fall in love with them. And these 3 are especially friendly, calm and trusting. The other fellas we hatched I was glad to see go. They were butt-heads. These 3 are precious.
I will watch that middle one. I'm not 100% positive about that one either.
I picked up an 8x12 shed last night that was listed on Craigslist for $100. Yay for me!
So here is my wants list:
2 lg faverolles pullets (from cloverleaf)
2 lg ameraucanas pullets (from cloverleaf)
1 lf ameraucanas roo (from cloverleaf)
silkies -girl and boy- non show quality. Just some fun fluff for myself and my little girl.
1-2 marans pullets -- love the black copper and also the cuckoo
I also have a question about quarantine. How do you keep them seperate for the ride home (or is this just silly)? Also how is it done at home? For how long? Even neccesary?
Thank you to those of you who put the work into setting up the swap! What a fun thing. I'm soo looking forward to it.
