Oregon Spring Poultry Swap April 23, 2011 in Canby!!!

Ok, people who cage their small birds-what type of cages are you using? Like a guinea pig cage with shavings on a solid floor? Or like a rabbit cage with wire floor and tray underneath? I am just curious!

I have a combination. I have the cages my husband built me and I have larger (40x18 and 30x18) guinea pig cages with shavings or wood pellets, depending on what I have at the time. I'm also trying to find something with less dust so I experiment all the time. I don't like wire and don't use it for any of my animals.

Thanks! I figured that the wire would be hard on their feet!

Is anyone bringing chicken/small animal cages to the swap meet? If so, I'd love to put dibs in on some! My dog crates are for giant dogs and they work for big birds, such as my peafowl and turkeys! I can almost fit an entire small chicken flock into one of them

For my Seramas I use a large Macaw cage, and a medium size cockatoo cage. I like for them to have room to jump around on the perches a bit. I use a combo of pellets and shavings also. My macaw cage is about 3'x3'x4' and could easily fit 4 Seramas with room to jump around. My other cage is about 2x2x3, and imo they need a bit more floor room then that, but it is currently housing a Serama that is going to be a small A and my cockatiel, since he wont play nice with any of my girls,

I had to take his girlfriend away...yet he is great with my cockatiel...

I also make sure the cages are the type without wire flooring, or where you can remove the wire flooring. Good luck!!!
