Or Poplars!
We have a lot of those. They drop branches and die and rot and fall over by the dozens every year in the woods around our property.

At least they make for easy pickins for cavity nesting birds and other critters (the woodpeckers love them), and the branches they drop are great to put in the girls' run. They're relatively light weight so pretty easy to carry.

The large branch below their perch is a poplar branch, I carried it up the hill by myself without a lot of effort

“And he will make her un-alive ! He’ll reach down her throat and tear out her h…. That’s what he does, that’s all he does! You can’t stop him. He can’t be reason with. He won’t show pitty, he won’t feel remorse! He’s a Ciberdyne Systems (Terminator model 101) he won’t stop! From a movie me and Dakota were watching last night. I know….. I shouldn’t let kids watch movies like that one, I’m a poor excuse for a chicken daddy.

That's very responsible.
I took those 10 chickens in to my property, because I knew I could care for them as well as my other birds. Yes, it’s a lot of work, but I have assistants and my yard guys if I need them. Ps. The new ones are becoming friendlier lately. It’s becoming more difficult to count them when they are mixing with the other hens. (The roosters are counted separately because they are so easily recognized) wonderful feather colors!!

By the way, this photo was from February and they posed for the camera real well. Staring at you. I'll try to get some photos of the chickens tomorrow. It has been way too cold today. Tomorrow will be 41 F so hopefully better... but it gets really hot here in summer.
41f better?! Still way too cold!
