Oregon Spring Poultry Swap April 23, 2011 in Canby!!!

Hi, It is I (chicken
jumpy.gif
newbie) and hoping to get the chance to meet some of you. I am hoping to attend to some of the Swaps coming up this month. I have been reading some of the posts and the one in Canby on the 23rd is sounding awesome!! I am also one that is wanting to possible look into the Serama breed. Maybe a couple, just for pets. Their tiny size intrigues me. I am also wanting to look into the breed, Mille Fleur d’uccle. I think they are so beautiful. And hearing about all the other things (CHEESECAKES
droolin.gif
), I can hardly wait! Chickens, baby chicks, and cheesecakes, I'm going think I have died and gone to heaven! I was just wondering if anyone out there had any advice for a newcomer? Things like, what should I bring (especially if I plan on buying)? How are these swaps set up? Anything, that you might think, that would help someone going to a swap for the first time.

Thanks,

Hi Paula, I look forward to meeting you! I'm the cheesecake lady lol and one of the Serama lovers/owners on the site so I look forward to sharing them with you as well. Tallyho posted this a couple pages back:

table
chairs
birds
pot luck goodie
our own eating and drinking utensils?
Something to drink?
Extra boxes for all the extra birds we won't be able to resist!

and I added smaller bills for those purchases. That pretty much covers what you might want to/need to bring. Basically we all just set up at our vehicles or within the park/area (depends what the lay of the land is where have the swap) and enjoy the day, the birds, the food and company!

And thanks for the Facebook add!

I'm planning on sending hubby and my ten year old up to get a starter flock we gave away our flock last fall. . . and well we haven't been able to keep to that, and we have realized once and for all that we're a family who needs to have chickens. We miss them too much!

That said my wish list is for hens coming into their first laying. I love silkies, barred rocks, and my daughter is crazy for easter eggers. I have been wanting a polish crested. We are in city limits of Eugene and cannot keep cockerels. Which is so sad I love them.

Please contact me if you have any of what I'm looking for or something maybe I should be. I'd love to have an order worked out before they go. So they could have it be a stop in and pick up day for them. Dad looses patients when outings take forever.

thank you

Oregon Spring Poultry Swap & Sale. Saturday April 23, 2011 11am-2pm (ish). Canby Community Park, Canby Oregon.

**NOTE** I have not included specifics if folks have made agreements on here, unless it has specifically been put into someone's have / want list. Example: Including stuff if someone has a "bringing things for ..." section, but not if someone says they are looking for something, and someone else immediately responds to them. Does this make sense??

Zoomummzy -

Update time. I am fairly certain I have everyone's cheesecake order noted but please double check for me. There are a couple chicks being held tentatively, so I am taking back up requests for them - the Barred Rocks and Layla, the Golden Sebright. I didn't update all the photos since most of the older ones have not changed. The Seramas have been updated as well as the younger chicks. I am going to go through my cages today and make a final decision on who goes and who stays so I will update the photos and the list after that is complete.

Cloverleaf Farm -

Have -
bantam and large fowl Faverolles, should have plenty of chicks and started birds by then (bantams in salmon and blue salmon, also maybe some splash salmons, large fowl will be all salmons) **no more LF than what's already been ordered**
bantam Ameraucanas in black/lav splits
large fowl Ameraucanas in lavender and black splits
d'uccle x bantam Faverolles chicks
I have a large fowl lavender Ameraucana cockerel, hatched last April. Came from Jean Ribbeck (pips&peeps).
Also a bantam lavender Ameraucana cockerel, hatched June 28, 2010. From John Blehm stock.
I will only bring these two roos to the swap if someone definitely wants them.
1 large fowl black Ameraucana cockerel from pips&peeps, will be about 6 weeks old at swap time.
Large fowl Salmon Faverolles cockerels of various ages. They make an AMAZING meat bird, and super cute mutt chicks in a mixed backyard flock!!
I also now have porcelain and mille fleur d'uccle chicks, hatched 3/30. If someone is interested before the swap, I'd love to see them go before then!!

A one year old Welsummer hen, who lays XL eggs, really good egg color, and about every other egg is SUPER speckledy. (Yes, speckledy is a word) SOLD TO DANCINGHEN

A 2 year old EE hen who lays a pink egg with tiny white speckles on it. She is a cream color with slate beard and red leakage, but carries blue, because when mated with my lavender Ameraucana roo, the babies have both been blue. Her eggs are large and she is laying slower than she used to, but still laying well. (pic of her on post #1637).

I also have one chick from the above hen with my Lav roo, it' blue, VERY fluffy, nice full beard, and it almost looks like it might end up with some blue barring, it's only about 10 days old, so I don't know the sex yet, but it isn't screaming roo at me yet. If it's a pullet it should lay really pretty eggs!

I bought a Cochin chick at the feed store just to see what it was going to turn out like. It's from Welp hatchery, I am pretty sure it's a silver laced, and I think it's a pullet.

I also have some Faverolles x d'Uccle cockerels. I will bring 2 that are white with black in the tail and around the neck, almost like a Columbian pattern, and there will be two that are more of a buff / reddish color, I just don't know which of those guys I want to part with yet. If anyone is interested in these cockerels, I can post pics...I will probably have a couple of pullets of this crossing too, but they will be package deals with the roos only.

Wants - Hopefully nothing! Well, except for a cheesecake from Laura and MORE goat cheese from Jen!! Cheesecakes I want: a buckeye and a sunshine! Vanilla extract from silkiechicken! Also Serama size diapers and aprons from Celiandy.

What I'm bringing that others have spoken for (so far) - 1 bantam and one LF Fav pullet for Tallyho, pair lf Ameraucanas for tlb796, 2 LF Faverolles pullets for K7, 2 LF lavender Ameraucana pullets for CorgiHouse, up to 6 LF Lav Am pullets (1 or 2 splits ok) for OregonJen, 2 LF Am 2 LF Fav & 1 LF Lav Am cockerel for slurrywidow.

WallTenters -

Want -

Brutus from Zoomummzy
MF Bantam Cochin pullet from tallyho
Might bring home some good starts, any strawberries?

Have -

Dominique, EEs (Americauna Xs) chicks. Between 1 month - a few days old. Straight run.

Dominique cockerels for butcher birds - great heritage meat birds! Try them out, perfect for pastured poultry production! Market as heritage/heirloom! Delicious!

Purebred Dominique hatching eggs, purebred Americauna hatching eggs, purebred Orpington hatching eggs, MaransX (Australorp hens, Marans roo) hatching eggs
All of these eggs are from our breeder pens, and all pens are still considered project birds. We are getting some really nice chicks out of these pens and these are the best birds of each breed that we have.

Possibly a small flock (4 hens + 1 roo) of Sicilian Buttercups - waiting to hear back from a potential home on those.

Some egg laying hens - around one year old and productive.

oregonJen -

No longer able to come.

Noncentzters -

Have -If anyone is interested I have four 4-month old EE cockerals: two BR and two NHR. I wasn't planning on bringing them, but if someone wants one I will. Otherwise to freezer camp they go!

Wants - some vanilla extract. A Buckeye cheesecake
Zanna - Honey (your container)
AyeUpChuck - roma plants/starts
ZooMummzy - one more cheesecake - blueberry

silkiechicken -
If anyone has extra roosters, culls, or stew hens that you don't want to see again... I may be interested in what you have, including banties. But do note, they are going to the big chicken coop in the sky.

Updated list:

Want: Watermelon goat milk soap! Extra birds to eat (I have no place to raise them in Oregon)

Have:
Plant Starts if all goes well:
Tomato: Roma, sweetie, gold nugget, early girl.

Herbs: Basil

Other: Morning glory-turns out my blue with yellow throat of last year were not as labeled! They really are darker blue with white throats.

Seeds: Nasturtium and Morning glory if you chose to direct sow

Vanilla Extract!!!

Real Madagascar beans from Madagascar and vodka! Not that ebay stuff from Paupa New Guinea and no sugar added to give off a fake sweetness. I've made them going by the federal minimum of about 14 ounces of beans per gallon of vodka, so there is about 3.5 beans per 4 ounce jar. Vanilla extract, not vanilla vodka. LOL $8 each or 2/$15. It is unfiltered and if you shake it up, you can get little vanilla specks in your baked goodies!

Goji (wolfberry) starts.

I have... Black copper marans... I could have some hatchies ready... they are from Charlie and the Chocolate factory.... Also have Willhe Wonka and his eye candy... They are the Wade line bird (some presley influence).

Charlie's son got 3rd place in BC in Newnan... Let me know... I don't want to trade for anything that eats... Like the fruit and veggie thing...herbs etc...

I can bring eggs or chicks... PM me if you are interested otherwise I will come unchickened.. (and hope to stay that way) I may have a couple quality cockerels from Charles if anyone is interested...

My list will include A pair of (from OhioRuss) bantam cuckoo marans. They are a project bird so it is a work in progress. Guaranteed from Russ who has won many accolades over the years for breeding... This is likely the only pair in Oregon that is for sale this year. I have only one pair. I would ask 150 for them

I also have a pair of Bayhorsebonne Black Copper marans that are not a year yet. I would ask 150 for them. I have only one pair. I have reciept and hatching records on my birds.

I have a trio of my own Black Coppers from my pens I ask 100 for them. They are from Charlie and the Chocolate factory. This is my list for the gathering. Let me know if anyone is wanting these birds.

I am bringing:
Body Wash or Bath Bubbles $12.50/Bottle
Zoomummzy~Lilac, Mango (or Guava), Rose and Gardenia (2 are trade for Bath Wash)
Cloverleaf~ Vanilla
Ayeupchuck~Vanilla
Celtic~Lavender or Lilac

my mother and father are bringing a few assorted things, the first is Automatic Chicken Feeders. The kind that the chickens step on and the lid raises so they can get the food, but otherwise it is closed so no rats get in it. I can personally say since using it no animals get into the food. I can post some pics of the one they made for me later, but the pics are before it was painted...LOL...I will try to get organized and get some up of the ones that would be brought to the swap.

Also my mom makes these neat hanging tea towels. They are a nice thick towel and not like some of the cheaper ones that are out there. I have a few of them and use them all the time and love them! They are $10. pics on pg178

I will also have some Sizzles, and I plan to have some assorted Polish. It is possible that I MAY have some Serama, these are all straight run. Let me know if you are interested so I can put a list of the people who want to look at them to make sure I bring enough of them. All of these are from very nice lines, I will post pics later.

Polish Chicks:
Tallyho
(all below want to look at chicks)
Illia
Daze333
Celiandy

Frizzles:
Sakchicken

I will also most likely bring extra sizzles and polish.

**** If I forgot to list anyone please speak up!****

Hello Everyone. For the swap. I will be bringing at least a few of each. Younger birds, mostly pullets. Cockerels on request..just figured pullets will be more popular.

I have:

Delaware
Rhode Island Reds...came from very dark large parent stock.
Partridge Chantecler Pullets...from hatchery...will be 6-7 weeks old @ time of swap.
Mottled Javas....I traded for hatching eggs from a nice local breeder with beautiful parent stock
Black Australorp
Americaunas
Easter Eggers
Welsummers...absolutely gorgerous but I don't have very many.

I want:

Mille Fleur Bantam Cochin...got this one covered already from K 7 Menagerie...can't wait.

Silkie chicks for my daughter...black, white, or something different...the youngest chicks I can find...preferably day olds or week olds.
Show Girl. The sweetest looking one I can find...just for fun.
Guinea Keets... just a couple for my friends since only 1 hatched.
Please don't let me buy anything else...I have too many chickens and very tired of adding on to the coop.
I'm looking for a Silke cockerel. I would love to have a lavender one or something different...Must be very colorful...blues...just pretty. The younger the better. Like I say he doesnt have to be "show quality" but close would be nice. Let me know what you got.

I'd love to come see what y'all have got, and learn about chickens from those willing to talk

OregonJane -

We are looking for a white silkie pullet and I am wondering if anyone attending the poultry swap has one that they are willing to part with. We know that they are hard to sex so we may have to buy 2 just to get a pullet.

We are also looking for Marans and Welsummers for their dark colored eggs (I use to do egging and want to get back into it). We would also want to pick up a Barred Rock and maybe a Wyandotte.

I hope to be bringing Black Copper Marans fertile eggs and/or chicks/pullets/cockerels. Also have Muscovy hens, proven producers/layers and one or two drakes. Have one stunning blue/lavender Muscovy young hen. Don't think my Narangansetts will be hatched by then ...but my Midget Whites may be if anyone is interested.

Oh, also one or two beautiful banty cochin/silky type roos.

I'll probably bring a couple of extra Muscovy hens and some more bantys (roos and hens) if I can catch them

I do have 3 bronze breasted turkeys but they are still *re-habbing* from the muck I bought them out of, still need groceries but if anyone is interested, I paid 35.00 each for them. Otherwise, will raise them up til fall and then YUM!!

LeasureChix -

I am very interested in obtaining some Birchen Marans (eggs, chicks or adults) for myself as well as Wheaten Marans (eggs or chicks) for a fellow chick lover that won't be able to make the swap.

I have 1 week old Splash Marans (8), Golden Cuckoo Marans (8), and Dark Brahma's (3). Being new to chickens and since they came as eggs from ebay'ers, I have no idea of the quality. I haven't decided for sure what I will ultimately keep

BeautifulPacificNorthwest -

I'm interested in possibly attending the swap. I have 14 hatchery stock Cubalaya eggs on day 12 in the incubator. Anyone interested in them?
I'm brand new to chickens (just hatched my first egg 2 weeks ago) and would love to talk with others in person at the swap. I'm really sorry to jump in on this topic so late. I subscribed early on, but haven't been keeping up on it. Can someone catch me up briefly on the details? (My head just spins at the thought of having to read 165 pages). Where will it be located? What time? What can I bring? How should I prep my chicks? (assuming I have any).
Thanks in advance for your time and patience. Everyone on BYC has been so kind to me as a newby.
And...I would love to buy a cheesecake

kelar -

Not sure yet if I will be going to the swap, but might make it down if there is enough interest in acquiring birds. I have Silkies coming out my ears (thanks Cloverleaf for the Dickey) - lots of extra cockerels, some of them are really nice boys, but they've got to go before they ALL lose their feathers LOL. I also need to sell some of the chicks I've hatched this year - they range in age from 1 week to 6 weeks right now. I can also bring birds to the Stevenson show on Sunday (I'll have a car full on Saturday) so if anyone is interested, please let me know as I don't like to haul birds around unless arrangements are made in advance. If there is anyone on here who is interested in buying extra silkie cockerels periodically (for soup or whatever), OR if you know anyone like that, I'm looking to make a connection so I'm not trying to rehome so many boys all the time. I have so much money into them, I really don't want to just give them away, so would be looking for about $2 each. These are boys with DQs or questionable breeding quality. I'd MUCH prefer to give them to good homes, but I just can't afford to keep feeding them and need the room. I'm a little afraid to use Craigslist for this as there seems to be a lot of flakes lurking on there:) Please pm or email me if anyone is interested.

Sadly, do to lack of time, an overabundance of work here on our ranch, an unforeseen surgery and a rough kidding year, we do not think we can make it to the swap this year.

If anyone had made arrangements to get birds from us or would like to order chicks, turkey poults, ducklings, goslings, baby peafowl, guineas or quail or eggs, we can do that. We will also be making a trip to Portland once a month from May- August and might be able to deliver birds along the I 5

If you would like to order birds or check availability on anything we raise, please email us directly [email protected]

We wish you all a GREAT time!

Jennifer

I'm coming into this late. I'll try to read through all the pages. Do I post prices or wait till the day?
Want
Cheesecake - what flavors and cost? I've seen ginger & red velvet that sound like must haves.
Honey - I need to bring my own containers? What's the price?
Chicken diapers - Serama size X 4 lined & med sized X1 lined & Reg sized X 1 lined
Truffles perhaps both chocolate and fungus yummies? Price?

Bringing I will only bring birds that have been spoken for.
2 Polish Tolbunt Pullets under 1 year of age. One is frizzled and broody. When she wasn't broody she laid almost everyday. Her sister is a smooth feathered Tolbunt who lays about every other day. They are super sweet and totally devoted to eachother. Even though only one is broody they spend the day cuddled in the corner. They have been raised inside. I can't have roos and they need someone who will cherish them and be able to strengthen this lovely color of Polish. They LOVE their food made into mash with added kefir. They have been fed organically. Pictures coming soon.
3 Olive Egger Pullets ready to go outside. Hatched Feb 17th. One is blue and 2 are black. Fed organically, but got cocci and finished treatment 3 days ago. Pics coming.
2 Marockans (Marans X Rocks) Pullets in solid blue and solid black. Hatched Jan 31st and raised outside with Silkie mom and fed organically. Pics to come.
1 Blue Wheaten Ameraucana pullet hatched Feb 22nd. She has a bad cross beak and is free to a good home that can care for her. She is super sweet, lively, and has the prettiest coloring. She's outside with her Silkie mom and fed organically.
Kefir grains for free. These have been grown in organic cows milk. I have enough for 2-3 people.

We also will probably be at the Stevens show if that's easier.
Cheers,
Alisan
