We are on the other side of the Applegate river, so no problems with city ordinances. According to Cindy at the planning dept for
the city of GP, you are allowed 5 hens, unless you live in an area with CC&R's that say less. No roosters only hens -if you need to get rid of any extras keep the good ones and re-home the less friendly ones.

I talked to a lady named Wendy, and darn i can't remember which department. but when i called the city to ask about chickens they transferred me to her. she said there is no amount specified in the municiple code. and as long as they do not bother my neighbors everything would be fine. i hope i didn't get wrong information. i just put 2 silver lace wind ups on hold to be picked up and added to my little ladies on thursday :\

Do what kinda light do y'all suggest and what kind of cycle on only at night on all the time help

Infra Red and temp needs to be 95 degrees in under the lamp and cooler areas they can get away from the heat if they get too warm. Decrease temp by 5 degrees per week until fully feathered, then they can go off lamp unless temps dip below freezing until full size. I have my brooder in my shed. Lamp is a 250W IR about 2 feet off ground. Temp is currently about 91 under lamp and about 80 in the rest of the box. It is 4x3.5ft and 2ft high walls. Solid walls and chicken wire for lid for ventilation. The three chicks I have are about 5-6 days old.

Ah, I have a shop light with the yellow shroud facing outward to not attract bugs with 75w bulb on 24hrs. I have a 300w flood on a timer to suppliment daylight. On at 5:30 til one hour after sunrise(in case it is cloudy) then comes on an hour before sunset and turns off at 8:30. That is my coop setup. Works pretty well for my kids. If the fall off roosts they have a little light from the shop light to get back up. Also if anything gets in they can see to get away or attack it.

I have decided to only raise silkies and Jersey's. So I have two wyandotte hens who are 5 months old and 2 5 month old EE's they have been with me since they were chicks they don't mind being handled and come when you call them. One of the EE's is such a sweet heart she doesn't mind if my grandboys hug or kiss her. I am kind of sad to see her go but I am in lovvvvveeee with the Jersey breed. So I am going to focus on them instead. Let me know if you are interested. I would perfer selling them in pairs since they have been together since I got them from Wilco in May. Thanks!!!

KNOCK KNOCK OK hey hope ya don't mind but since I see a few new peeps her. I thought I would try to share a few top secret ideas I stole on one of my midnight shopping trips.

1) It is always wise to try to bribe neighbors with a few fresh eggs now and then.

2) PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS. When using a portable light make sure that the fixture is rated for the size bulb or more. IE IF it says 100 watt max. DO NOT PUT a HEAT LAMP in this. When using heat lamps ONLY use them in the porcelain fixtures rated heat lamps. The cheap lamps are plastic etc. They can melt and cause a fire.

My former feed supplier lost her entire huge barn, all of her breeding hogs and her entire feed business. The best we were able to determine was it was caused by a faulty heat lamp.

Please don't let us hear how one of us has had a fire related to a light failure. Yes I know those "brooder lights" seem pricey but what value do you put on your flock, your coop/barn, your house and MOST OF ALL YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Please be safe!!!
