Oregon

IM in Montana where it was -9 today and -20 last night. (NOT WIND CHILL BUT TEMP)

I lived in Eugean for 11 years and I miss your part of the country soooo much !

I have one daughter in Van Couver and one in Lake Oswego. I come out as often as I can as I have a new grand daughter there.

I would love to be there right now !!!!!! We are freezing !!!!

My chickens are in an unheated coop and it is 5 degrees outside. So far so good.

I'm south of you guys in Portland, near Junction City. I opened the coop up to 4 and 1/2 inches of snow this morning, and the birds refused to touch it. I guess they just stayed on the cedar shavings and looked out at it all day. Had to break the ice twice, but I think we're only hitting 18 degrees tonight (not as cold as you northerners). So thankful for my woodstove and lots of blankets!

Hello to all,

We're out between McMinnville and Sheridan, and, baby, it's coooooold outside! However, the flock seems to be doing just fine. My pullets started laying at 19 weeks (day after Thanksgiving), and we're up to 4 eggs/day (I have 12 at that age). The flock was both inside the coop and out in the snow on Sunday, but we kept them in on Monday, and will again today.

Our coop is divided inside (and out), and luckily, we just processed our last batch of meat birds (21 of 'em!) two weekends ago. We took off the middle door to open up all of the floor for the rest of the winter for the Rhode Island Reds. The coop is not insulated, but we do have two heat lamps, and they seem to be doing just fine. Our rooster seems to be particularly happy to have all of his girls contained in the house!

Hope all the chickies are doing well, and everyone stays safe!

My birds are all doing well here. I do give them a heat lamp in the coop if temps go below 20 degrees. I also had to put a heater in my rabbit barn. I'm sure they would do ok but I have too much money into them to lose one. Glad everyone is doing well-bundle up!

it was 10 below last night but heated up to about 10 above in Heppner, all my chickens are ok,too dang cold I know that

just got some eggs all frozen solid

I was worried about the eggs too so I was out there about every hour checking for them and on the girls. They seem just fine. It got down to 12 last night. I think I'm more worried about them than I should be, but that's a Mom for you

Stay warm everyone! I hear there is more on the way. My kids call the school hotline every 15 minutes looking for closure updates, lol. I have a feeling it's going to be a long holiday season here in Oregon.

We are near McMinnville. It was so frozen earlier this week. We finally got 2 of the metal water-ers and the heated bases for them. But; I have not put them out because they are not supposed to be wet. Like, Hu? They are in a "chicken tractor" how am I supposed to do that? So far we have been going out 3 or 4 times a day to pour hot water to melt the ice they have.

Please tell me what you are doing for your water when it is frozen.

i have a metal fount and the base that goes with it and it's been sitting in the snow all week. as long as the snow doesn't get under it and get the circuitry wet you are fine. the fact that it's a heater and it's all covered means that for snow or water to get up in it, it would have to flow uphill to the electrics, not likely. mine's plugged into a ground fault outlet too. it worked great through the cold we just had.
