My silkie just hatched a egg and then turned around and tried to peck it.( she did this once before hit it in the eye and later on it died) So I put the chick in with another broody hen that kept trying to lay stake to the eggs. So far so good! I will let you know.

It was a blast! Gets bigger every time! In 2 days post swap, we have already sold half of the spaces for the spring swap!

I think Mother Nature is trying to make up the rain deficit for the year in the last week and a half of October. SHEESH it was wet last night driving the semi to Lakewood, WA.

We are working on converting a five foot overhang on our shop into a breeding pen, broody room and some equipment storage. I just packed all the left over cement siding across the yard and now I get to haul it back. It's like firewood, it's not ready to burn until you move and stack it the third time. The rain we just had at least showed us the low spots and that I will be wheeling in a lot of sand!

I love my coop and run, but knew the real test would be rain! After such a lovely, long and dry summer, I don't think Nelson believed me that it ever would rain again. Now he knows. The turkeys, who free range during the day, sure had a lot to complain to me about. I even had to move their sleeping quarters to a better spot. And the ducks had a river running through their bed, so we trenched that, too. Amazing how much easier it was to dig a trench during a downpour than in the middle of the summer!

So far so good in the chicken coop. Fingers crossed!

I hope all the chicken lovers back east are staying safe and dry!
