Oregon

So I moved everyone out to the big run the other day and in the morning we open the doors so they can free range but here's my question how rare is it for a chicken to drown my bantam silkie ended up in the goat water somehow which is like a 5 gal bucket has anyone else every had this happen sad day...... :/

I would guess it tried to perch on the edge of the bucket and misjudged the jump. I've had them try that when re-filling my waterers, but I've been there to scoop them out, silly birds.

Yea she was on a couple months old crazy birds idk what the heck or it saw one of the older pullets drinking out of there so maybe she hope up to get a drink and its plastic so no grip poor lil bird out of all the ways out there to eaten in buried what have you idk drowning though just surprised me I guess

Just wondering if anyone has given their chickens raisen's... my chickens go CRAZY over them. It's really funny watching them go after it. Plus it's the only treat that even my skiddish chicks will eat out of my hand.
I keep my raisins in a Tupperware container. On shake of it and all 29 chickens come running as fast as they can from whatever they are doing, even if they are on the nest getting to lay.
Question for all you local peeps....I have three 4 mo girls. Two of them were hatched together and have always been 'budied' up leaving my poor third girl left out and perpetually behind and distressed. So I want to get another chicken to give her a friend. I know it isn't advisable normally to add one chicken at a time into a flock. But being we only have 3 and one is already way lower in the pecking order what do you think? They are out and about all day and only cooped up to sleep. It broke my heart again tonight when I went to tuck them in and Applesauce was all alone roosted away from Cinderella and Cecilia, who were all warm and snuggled up together :( So the farm I got all three chicks from has silkie hens right now the same age and I am just dying to bring one home!!! If our set up aloud for 5 chicken's I would bring 2 as is reccomended, but it doesn't we can ony do 4 max right now. Any thoughts? Someone please tell me it will be OK and to go get one!!!!

My littlest chick was the most adventurest on their outdoor outing for the first time today! She is 6 weeks and still so tiny. Big chickens those little silkies and bantams, they kept together in a tight group and didn't explore much.

lol Yes she does :) Five toes on both feet. She's been shampooed too. And with dog oatmeal shampoo from the vet that is guaranteed not to harm her or dry her out. They were both kind of crusty/dirty birds once I got to looking under the feathers. I thought that was something on her beard ...like maybe tar or no clue really. But thats black in her feathers not on them lol LOL She's kind of bossy. Here's a close up of her getting mad at me for having the camera stuck in her face. I was a little bit worried she might go after me once I realised she was growling at me in a not friendly way ... but after I while I realised she's just bold. And she likes to piss and moan, sorry for the bad language, but that pretty much sums up Gracie lol I think she's a riot! :p
I think the are only two kind of hens that have five toes and one is faveroll. I don't remember what the other is but I am sure she has at least 75% faveroll.
She's pure Faverolles, she's just hatchery quality. There's a HUGE difference between what a Fav will look like from a breeder, vs a hatchery. It's not uncommon for them to be even darker than her. :) Favs are awesome!! (Though I am kind of biased) ;)

I finally managed to rehome my 7 week old rooster easter egger. two days after I rehomed him my 4 month old rooster finally started to crow and is an instant loud pro so I am hoping his rehoming doesnt fall through as one already didnt work out as she was gonna eat him since she already had a roo. I found someone interested in him, just waiting for her to call and come into town. I hope it works out as he is a sweetie and I hate to give him up. he is huge for 4 months old, almost 8lbs and will hop up on my lap sometimes. cant have a roo in the city though. He was supposed to be a buff orpington when i got him from wilco but he's something else because he doesnt have a single comb and his feet are yellow. my best guess is a buff wyandotte, anyone have any better guess as to what he is? thanks, lisa
