Oregon

Gorgeous bird bantychickenluv, none of my boys are that pretty. Hehe, guess I owe my americauna boy for that.

Suzierd, what varieties you got? I haven't done much with my silkies. Got my first rooster this year so my eggs aren't fertilized,( at least in my silkie pen ) but one of my silkie girls I get an egg from every few weeks. The rest the rest the time she's broody. Boy she can be a mean little booger when it comes to her nest. :)

The parents to these chicks were eggs shipped from top breeders, I think there going to be very nice. I have blue and possibly black I'm a little confused on knowing for sure if its a dark blue or a black. I've read a black chick is black with a little gray and a blue is black with a little yellow and I got both in the 13 chicks I hatched out. I also got 5 paints. A couple where a pretty light gray or blue but looks like they are getting darker with the juvenile feathers coming in. Let me know if you would like another Roo I'm sure I'll have plenty.
I had three hens that shared hatching and are raising the outside peeps and one of them gets puffed up and very protective the other two are pretty calm. Of course if I pick one up and it starts yelling that gets the protective hen and the Roo all worried.
Sassy one of the Moms

I'm warming up to the idea of starting a new flock of proper heritage Dual Purpose birds ... Does anyone have Delawares available soon-ish? Preferably local?

Please send me referrals and recommendations about sources. I want a good, honest, respected source.

Thanks!!!!!

Need ideas. Eggs missing. Had 2 eggs on deck and forgot to bring them in. Next morning all gone , shells and all. See a wet spot where one may have broken. That evening one hen layed an egg on the floor of the chicken house. Forgot to pick it up, next morning went to get it, gone, shell and all. No chickens harmed. No dog. Only thing I can think of is snake. Any other ideas? No possums around here. Thanks

Rats will take them also

Ground squirrels will take them too.

For Dels, PM Zanna on here.

Thanks! And look ... there she is posting now! Jefferson isn't too terribly far.

I did a google search for Delawares, found The Delaware Poultry Club, checked the Oregon section of the breeder list, and the only breeder listed there is in the next town over from me (it looks like they are practically neighbors) ... Ann Brown at Dolce Farm and Orchards ... anyone ever hear of them? They do sell live birds as well as eggs and meat, doing essentially what I am thinking about doing if I reorganize ...
