The critters share the bounty. I didn't know they would prefer cooked, but between the hens and the does the seeds go quickly and the flesh gets nibbled on over the course of a few days. Then we cut open a fresh one! This year we have six, but some years we have had as many as fifty from the neighbor's pumpkin field leftovers. Sadly, this year they didn't plant pumpkins. (The seeds are a natural wormer for the goats.)

Does anyone have any quail near Portland?
I'd like to get some local Texas A&Ms, but any would do. I really don't wanna ship any birds this time of year.

Ha! I had a 5th great grandfather named Nimrod, but I never once considered the name for one of my own offspring.

Those do paint a picture of a jovial life. Many years ago we looked at a property for sale on Tickle Creek Road in Boring, Oregon. The children wanted us to buy the place just for the address.

We attend the Boring church and I met a retired minister who lives here, Reverend Sleeper...true story

Hello fellow Oregonians! Jumping into this thread only 700 pages late Located in Banks, OR on about 10 acres with a small backyard flock.

I am interested in finding quality breeders in Oregon and even Washington - not hatcheries. but smaller project farms who pay great detail to genetics, breed standards, health, etc. Any recommendations?

Since we're in the same climate, are your hens moulting now? Mine are 9 months old, and I expected them not to moult this year due to their age. Judging by the feathers I found in the coop today, my EE girl had other plans!

I'm in OC. I will have Wheaten Marans, Wheaten OE's, BBS and Buff Silkies all available in the spring.
