Oregon

Hi All,

I'm pretty new to this site and I don't think I've introduced myself on the Oregon thread. Hi!

I have a question: Is there a pretty lively egg swap program going on here with everyone in the PDX area? I'm loving the idea of raising some coachins, frizzles, swedish flower... etc. once I have a hen this spring go broody. I know we can order them online, but isn't it better to get local?

Anyway, hope everyone is having a great day!

Hi! We have a Spring Chicken Swap in Canby, and a Fall Chicken Swap in Corvallis. There is a facebook page for each :) Have not heard of a egg swap program but I don't live in Portland either..........

Looking ahead to summertime, does anyone know of a poultry processor in the Willamette valley? I found one in Scio, but closer to home would be nice.

There is a poultry processor at http://mineralspringspoultry.com
Willamina is off HWY 22 west of Salem. I've not used them myself, but I have heard good things.

How do you have four seasons here in Oregon? I thought there were only two, rain and construction.

I was being poetic. Really I count 3 seasons in my location ... mud, weed, and dead.

I lived in Boston and NYC for a few years, and if you had a business meeting the wrong afternoon you could entirely miss Spring ... walk into the meeting during cold & dry winter, walk out in hot & humid summer. Never see a blossom or a leaf except inside Macy's during their Spring Flower Show.

Hi all! Checking in from between Lebanon and Sweet Home. Novice chickeneer with about 25 birds at the moment, some purebreds and some backyard mixes.

Hello all! I am between Lebanon and Stayton and pretty new to chickens. I went to the Spring Swap, I missed my Smooth Silkied Amer. connection but got to see a great bunch of chickens! I never realized how BIG a Jersey Giant really is before Spring Swap. And there was the cutest little Serama Roo, think he was frizzled, strutting his stuff. All the birds I saw seemed really good around all the people.

This post is from last year but is this a regular event? Where is it? How do I get information on attending the next one?

Yes, this is a regular event. Will be held at the Canby Fairgrounds this year, I think April 27th. There is also a Fall swap in Corvallis at the Benton County Fairgrounds. Both have a Facebook page, sorry I dont' have the link and have a horrible time figuring out Facebook....... The real problem is I was born a century late :)
