[Yay Chicks!]

Just checking in on my fellow Oregonians with all this lovely weather...

We had our barn roof collapse in yesterday, thankfully on the storage/equipment side, so the animals are safe. But looks like we lost quite a bit of equipment, etc. Won't know how much until everything dries out a bit. We will have to tear down and rebuild the barn in the Spring, as it's pretty much totaled.

Had trees fall through parts of my back fence line, and also take out a gate. But all of us are safe and sound, animals included, so I am grateful for that! Hope you all are staying safe, and aren't dealing with much or any storm damage. Hang in there peeps!

Yikes, Kitty. Sorry to hear about the mess the weather caused at your place, but I'm very glad to hear that you are all okay!

Close to half of our land is covered with water when it's raining but less when the rain stops. Couple soggy chicken pens but I feel so fortunate compared to all the people suffering severe flooding and damage to their homes. Be careful everyone.

That's my story as well. I'm going for sand and wood pellets tomorrow to try to raise the chickens out of the water. Poor critters. I hope the rest of my fellow Oregonians are weathering the storm.

OK, fellow hatchers....riddle me this...

How the heck do chicks hatch with NO problems in a completely DRY incubator?? I had one hatch early and in the turner a week or so ago, and I had 6 eggs in the incubator that I was supposed to lock down tonight. I went to take them out of the bator and 5 of the 6 were already hatched!!

I dry incubate, so there was NO water in the bator. The 6th chick is pipped, but all the other 5 are out and fluffy, and have no membrane stuck to them at all. I think they hatched early because the incubator is in my brooder room and it's pretty warm in there (the 1588 is so consistent that I've quit keeping a thermometer in there too).

So why do people rip their hair out keeping humidity at a certain percentage when I have chicks hatching at what's probably 15% humidity???

NEWS FLASH I hate to ruin the fun but Red Rooster Farms IS now the QUEEN OF HATCHING ! ! See she texted me at 2:45am to say that the eggs she had been packing in her pockets for 35 hours are now hatching. She now has the TRUE POCKET CHICKENS

It's REALLY dry in my house with the type of heaters it has. The highest I've ever had a humidity reading in my house was 18%.
