I'm pretty sure Cloverleaf means we should bring them inside and let 'em watch TV with us. I'll tell Scott you said so..he is already so thrilled with your Mottle project idea.
That is what you meant ...right Jeanine?

Yeah...that's it exactly!

I'm just saying, that if the birds can get out, a predator could get in. That's it. I'm not trying to start an argument.

Neither am I. Honest.

But it was clear we're not communicating properly. I thought you thought so too (because we're all repeating ourselves, which is a clear sign people don't think they're being heard). So I thought I'd ask rather than miss the benefit of your point.

I admit, sometimes I DO get confused and giddy.

That'll happen when you've got both eyes on your outdoor flock who are just starting to lay, and the other eyes on your new impossibly cute babies brooding in your office.

So ... because I can see we didn't spell it out very well above: We have a HUGE secure coop. It isn't perfect, but it is pretty good so far. We're still working on it. Attached to the coop we have a large fenced run under an orchard/other trees. The flock has access to the run during the day. At night they are closed in the coop. But even though the fence is 7' tall, some of the hens find themselves on the wrong side of it on occasion. There *are* various ways they can accomplish this, though only the one hen seems to do it on purpose, and even she wants to get back in ASAP. The rest of the flock are such tattle-tales when someone gets out. Like 50 hens doing the egg song all at once. It is hard to miss.

This entire arrangement is located right outside the business end of the house, where we can hear if the flock gets excited and can also see them through various windows. The turkeys are great alarms if anyone walks into the yard.

Awesome! Sounds like a great set up!

I have to keep my run covered, because we have a pair of Bald Eagles that like to come sit in our trees and stare at the birds in their runs. LOL They glare at me like "let them out! We're hungry!"

It's a pain because branches are constantly falling on the run cover and ripping it up...

I need to get a solid cover on it...that would solve more of my issues...,like the rain mixed with feather legged birds...

Huh??? Our chickens ARE our TV. We sit in the coop and watch them. You people still need human entertainment? You might need more chickens!

We have hawks. Lots and lots of hawks. And we haven't had to deal with a windy/rainy season yet. That should be fun. I want a solid cover on my coop. I can already tell the greenhouse plastic isn't cutting it. Especially since the turkeys like to roost up there.

That is how my obsession began, its bad Nelson. Chicken math started for me like this 4 chicks now 4 months later 14 and a rescued 4 month old roo, If you want a free silkie rooster I know a sweet lady who has to cull a few.
yeah thats good to know but i cant do anything with just the roo i would love to have the pair that way i can make more babies and use the silkie as stepmom for my other future baby chicks or she can brood the eggs they are good step moms thats why i want one so bad and plus they are just adorable.
Chicken math stroke me and my girlfriend from day one we were suppose to get only 5 chickens we ended up with 72 and yesterday we bougth 26 more baby chicks they are just cutye im just glad we got the space for all of them
