Ok, so the aruacan flock I wanted eggs from got eaten by predators, then the creme legbars I was ordering from quit laying, on the risk that I will jinx another byc member.... any suggestions on pretty eggs (blue I'm wishful for) that are good layers?? Of course, now maybe I just need some good dual purpose pretties, sigh.

I just pm'd you but that is something I was thinking of, LF ameraucanas. I loooove my black and lavender but they don't seem to me much into laying yet. One layed like a month and went broody (sheesh). I'm so conflicted - I want to hatch, I want chicks, I want color, I love beards, CLEARLY I mostly need a chicken antidote. My DH said the other day with a puzzled look, "But I thought spring was over??"

They will sleep on the nest, they will cluck and sometimes act aggressively if you try and take "their" eggs.

No chicken question is stupid, trust me.

Anyway, when they are broody their temperament changes. They will be a bit moody and walk around all fluffed up and clucking loudy at everybody. When in the box they with fluff up and spread their wings out and make a sort of angry screeching noise.

You will also notice gigantic broody poops all overt he place.
