Always do what you love, otherwise it is work!

I will still be doing what I love, raising chickens. But with less stress, and a cheaper feed bill!

Just moved to La Pine, Oregon about 3 months ago. Just ordered our chicken coop, hopefully we will get it this coming week. No chickens yet, probably wait until Spring! I can't wait!

Just a quick question, I Wonder Why you are waiting to get your addiction/scratch that/ chickens. In chicken years that is a long time =:~) You do know that we all would love to help you get stocked. You will probably want to try a new breed by spring anyway..... just sayin' welcome to "chicken math"

Hi everyone. I'm new here, and new to raising chickens! i just got 8 rhode island red babies yesterday. so in love with these little ladies already! i've wanted to raise chicken for as long as i can remember and i never thought i'd actually be able to do it. i'm in Grants Pass, moved here about a year and a half ago from the bay area.

Welcome to BYC mrsTpratt! I'm just down the road in Roseburg. :) I had a RIR that lived to be about 12 years old she was a great hen.

Welcome to BYC and chickens! I love Heritage Rhode Island Reds. I'm not very fond of hatchery RIR's though, they tend to be super mean, even if you handle them a lot. At least mine is.

i got them from the grange, so i'm guessing that means they are from a hatchery. i hope my ladies are not mean. :( i'm going to keep handling them through out the whole day and hopefully it will help some. right now they are still intimidated when i reach into their brooder. though when i hold them and rub their heads and under their becks they relax and even stat to fall asleep.

Hello neighbor. I'm sure they will be fine, they may not be in your lap chickens but you will learn each others routine. You can.t grab anything with a handle withouf 16 helpers here at my house. They know I'm not going to hurt them and all kinds of things happen when they are close, cucumbers, worms, baby snakes, really wish they wouldn't kill them. Move slow when your around them and all should go fine.
