Organic feed recommendations?

Hi! We're new to chickens and have 6 baby chicks that are 3 weeks old. We've been feeding them manna pro organic chick starter from TSC, but those little 5 pound bags are adding up fast. Does anyone have any good organic feed they reccomend that's more cost effective? Locally would be preferred (we're south of Ft Worth Tx) but we can order online if need be. Thanks!

try to buy in bulk.. it's a bit cheaper

also try a farm or buyer club

they might have a better deal

The other part of 'chicken math' that you need to know about; feed conversion. For most backyard breeds, one pound of weight gain takes about three pounds of feed. SO, for example, six chicks that will grow to five pounds each is thirty pounds of chicken, and at least ninety pounds of chick feed. Then, if they mature at six to eight pounds body weight, that's another sixty or so pounds of feed. Before you might see any eggs! Buy fresh feed, according to the label, and don't store it for more than about another month, but still, buy bigger bags of feed!!! Mary
