I think GG meant something along the lines of, even the worst bird around could ruin an excellent cock through pen fighting. Which is true.

Hm, I don't know exactly how much he weighs. Perhaps 8-9 lbs? He's the heaviest chicken we have, I think. Maybe even heavier than our hatchery Buckeye cockerel, who's somewhere between 6-7 lbs, I think.

His toes may be a cage problem. He was a rescue bird, found as a young chick in someone's backyard earlier this year. His owner is primarily a duck owner, and I think she kept him in a cage for most of his life (more like a pen, not a cage).

I see your point. My Dad and I are going to build him his own personal pen and take him off his line. As far as the crooked toes, I didn't buy him from a breeder. He was a rescue bird adopted by someone who raises primarily ducks and geese. She had to get rid of him because he was attacking her other rooster. I think she kept him in a pen most of his life, and that may be where his crooked toes came from. I have a picture of him as an older chick, and he doesn't seem to have any crooked toe problems in that picture. Months of being in a cage environment might have done something to his toes

Please keep in mind that when it comes to Orientals, I'm an amateur. This is my first and I don't have everything down straight. I bought this cock not as a flawless start but as a training tool for when (Lord willing) I have better quality Orientals or other chickens in the future.

Oh I see. That makes sense.

Yep.

Here's some pics of my cock. Not the best ones, but a couple of them show his type really well. Does anyone know how to upload a video to the forum? I have a video to upload that shows his crooked toes well, if anyone would like to comment on them.

How would you rate his coloration? He looks very much like a SD. Also, what kind of cross do you think he is? Maybe Asil X Thai?

Is he even a cross?

I don't see any crooked toes on that bird. His color seems just fine for a silver duckwing, but color is pretty far down the list for most gamefowl fanciers. There is no way to tell with any certainty what he is. If you don't get your birds from knowledgeable, honest breeders, there is no certainty what you have, as many of the oriental fowl are difficult to tell one breed from another.

I'm glad you don't see any crooked toes. What exactly constitutes a crooked toe, then?

I'm a little disappointed that he seems to be a cross, but I'm just glad he's an Oriental game. That's been my dream, and I have it fulfilled, to an extent.

I never said he was a cross, simply that u can not tell just by appearance what many orientials are for certain.

Yeah, that's not a crooked toe, it's just the nail is kinda long, and on a flat surface that makes it kick out to the side like that. That stag looks to be in good health to me from what I can see. It does look like a Thai x Asil cross isn't out of the realm of possibilities for it's make up. Good luck with him.

BTW, he looks like his beak has been broken as well, so keep an eye on that.
