Oriental Gamefowl Thread!

lol I don't have any grown yokohamas just chicks I got this bird from my wifes uncle he's been breeding all kind of fowl for many many years but his muscle is great for what he is very light bird and very very fast on his feet he flew the length of 2 or more football fields 30 ft high over barns and all it took 2 hour of nonstop chasing to catch him but that was the deal I made if I catch him I have him nobody has been able to for years haha I don't think they wanted him as bad as me

and he's very sweet with the chicks I put in with him so he wouldn't be lonely

LOL yes they can fly huge distances... I had a VN JF hen, she was awesome, a great flock sentential and boy could she fly huge distances, she always came home to the flock though and never went too far (but seeing her fly to the top of the redwood trees was a sight). You may want to clip his flight feathers (he will still be able to jump high and fly a bit) and work on recall training. Our dogs & birds where trained to come to a specific whistle tune. The JF roos are so good with the hens & chicks, I think that is a trait many roos lack that needs to be bred back in. You scored with that handsome guy, he is worth the chase for sure... when you breed him what crossing are you thinking of doing?

I found them!!!
These are the birds I was looking for (just a different colour).

Large Australian Game.
Wow... someone thought bigger was better LOL. Impressive birds, I love the leg on them.

I found some info on the breed: (In no way am I suggesting fighting birds is okay, it is just the facts of their history).

The Australian Game was developed in the 19th century in the state of New South Wales, Australia. They were originally bred for cockfighting and meat production, and developed from a mix of Australian Pit Game, Malay Game,Old English Game, Modern Game and Asil. (Bred for performance so a right good mix of breeds). They were originally called Colonials and they were highly prized as they possessed great courage and stamina in the pit. However, they were reported to be gentle and tame towards their owners. Their Malay background meant that they were quite leggy and as that was highly regarded at the time they were highly prized. It is now a popular exhibition bird.

I want some dino-birds. Wow they are cool.

if I can't find true junglefowl hens for him I'm thinking bantam sumatra, barred or cuckoo OEG bantam, or something else with the wild look but true junglefowls hens are on top of the list

I hope you find a JF hen.

My dh has been wondering at all my chicken research of late, he just discovered that chickens come in all black via a picture on the internet an Ayam Cemani (which he thought was too cool, naturally I told him about other all black breeds)... I also showed him a 3 foot tall Malay & told him of the Giant Jersey (which was "no way, that big!")... muh wah hah hah... next I must introduce him to sumatras, yokohamas, shamos, lemon 84s and pheonixes... muh wah hah hah. I will figure out his tastes in fowl.

We had several breeds in the past... the JF was awesome, dh really liked the NN also, & the Ameracuana was fun too, all the laying-dual purpose breeds where good hens (too many to list). Our favorite birds had personality. I have been researching the Longtail breeds, but in the process keep coming back to game breeds I think are too cool... I can't help but drool

over the beauty of certain game breeds/lines, and be totally impressed with the big boy breeds like Malay, Saipan, O Shamo & now Australian Game... just awesome & I love those long strong legs. I also have always wanted a few Jersey Giants too, I should be thinking small birds (bantams), but dang it big is cool... I am partial to PP/RR comb types.

Oh well research them all, then decide...

Oh yes the various JF combs that the crosses even several generations down can produce are cool... I think you need some straight comb genes to bring that out.

On another realated note I want these! Madagascar Game/Ga Noi/Malgache! Okay so I will need serious land and lots and lots of coops... these are cool.
