The last two both look like EE's to me. The other way to tell the EE's from the Wellies is the combs. So, EE's have the flat combs and green legs, and Wellies have a single comb and yellow legs. They feather out a bit differently too, especially in that the head 'V' on EE's can get blurred with white or light feathers a lot whereas the Wellies stays clearer for longer, but the legs and combs are the easiest way when they're young. I'm not sure if you're just asking behavior wise or breed wise for the differences, but of course there's the egg color

. My EE's were always flighty, even when grown. My Wellies were brave, more inquisitive and a lot of fun. Still fairly standoffish, but not due to fear as much as they often had better things to do.

I do love my girls, but my husband won't actually let me keep all 25. I just ordered the 25 because that was the minimum at McMurray's Hatchery. I'll probably have to give away about 5 of the Buff Cochins and 5 of the EE's/Wellies, and I guess I was trying to figure out whether to keep the yellow legs or the green legs as far as which make better pets. If anyone lives near me and is interested in adopting some of my girls, send me a P.M. I hate to part with any of them, but my hubby won't be able to handle having that many.

On a sadder note, my girls were out in the vegetable garden which is surrounded by chicken wire. There was a large umbrella overhead with some other shelter, but the entire area was not covered. When I came out this afternoon, a large hawk flew overhead while a second hawk circled in the area. One of my chicks is missing, and I am so beside myself with grief at her loss. She couldn't have gotten out of the garden so I assume that one of the hawks got her. I will make sure that there is overhead protection now for them always. I feel so distraught that this happened. I should have protected her better.

The white one is not a sultan if it doesn't have feathered legs. It looks like a white polish to me-- clean dark legs, and no beard. The black and white one with 5 toes is a mottled Houdan. I miss my Houdan! He was crazy, but affectionate too. Had to give him away when the others kept pecking his crest feathers bloody. I think I saw a campine and a Welsummer in there too somewhere. Thanks so much for the posts, Woods_Woman, Humm-n-cluck ranch, and Fizzy Zow! I appreciate the help! Yeah, they are so much fun. I think my favorite so far is the Partridge Cochin. Her name is Rosie, named after SamWise the Hobbit's wife. She has the fanciest feet, I think!
